Key Responsibilities
- Execute pre-decommissioning checks including traffic validation, dependency assessment, and configuration backup.
- Perform logical decommissioning: disable uplinks/downlinks, remove VLANs/routing entries, and update monitoring tools.
- Support physical decommissioning: device power-down, startup-config wipe, and hardware removal coordination.
- Ensure asset disposition & compliance: update CMDB, maintain audit trails, and follow organizational compliance standards.
- Adhere to standard decommissioning procedures: connectivity validation, routing/forwarding checks, utilization analysis, control-plane validation, and graceful isolation before final shutdown.
- Prepare and submit post-decommissioning deliverables, including reports and evidence of backups, monitoring updates, and asset disposal.
- Collaborate with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to minimize risk and downtime during decommissioning.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Experience: 2–5 years of hands-on experience in network operations, device configuration, or decommissioning (L1/L2 level).
- Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing & switching, DNS, DHCP).
- Experience with Cisco, Juniper, or equivalent networking devices.
- Ability to perform traffic/utilization analysis and validate routing/forwarding tables.
- Familiarity with network management/monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Nagios, SNMP-based tools, etc.).
- Knowledge of change control processes and ITIL best practices.
- Good understanding of asset management and compliance procedures.
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in shifts or during sanctioned change windows (off-hours/weekends).
