Departmental Overview:
The Enterprise Project Finance Team provides end-to-end project financial support including development of business case financials, facilitating project planning and forecasting, providing insightful reporting and analysis, reviewing, and challenging large projects, maintaining relevant policies, methodology, tools, and training. The team also provides thought leadership on enterprise-wide expense management and drives the agenda on project prioritization for the Bank with a goal to optimize the portfolio, ensuring investment in the right things at right time to drive shareholder value. The team is focused on producing high-quality results within a positive work environment, with a strong emphasis on career development.
Finance and Business Accountabilities:
Reporting to the Finance Manager, Enterprise Project Finance, the role of Intern Co-op is to provide financial support to the TDS project portfolio and Enterprise Project reporting. This includes providing end-to-end project financial support including:
- Development of business case financials; monthly review of actual and forecasts against plan
- Facilitating project planning activities and support of month-end reporting for the portfolio
- Providing insightful reporting and analysis and reviewing and challenging projects
- Managing reconciliation efforts and interlocking sessions with segment finance/ business partners
- Support the consolidations of project and platform change financials
The role is responsible for full relationship management for the TDS segment inclusive of the Business, PDG and Segment Finance partners, and ensuring portfolio is effectively managed and compliant with bank's project governance and accounting policies.
Finance and Business Accountabilities:
- Perform the role of financial controller to the assigned portfolio(s).
- Work with business sponsors, project managers and segment finance to develop and review business case financials. The incumbent will provide financial expertise and oversight to ensure financial and accounting standards are followed and properly reflected in the business cases.
- Manage financial aspects of project tracking and reporting for the assigned portfolio, ensuring alignment to monthly/annual fiscal budget. Assigned projects will generally be larger, complex (i.e., multi-delivery, multi-year, cross-funded, split-funded, etc.), and require close coordination with partners on costs / associated benefits.
- Deliver financial / strategic analysis & insights for senior executive/management teams. This requires the consolidation of data from various financial sources and the ability to transform it into meaningful and actionable recommendations.
- Provide input to Technology and Segment finance teams for monthly reporting, quarterly forecasting, and annual planning.
- Participate in the annual portfolio planning and financial forecast cycles.
- Develop strong relationship with key stakeholders (Segment Finance Partners, TS, Operations, Shared Services, PDG, Business Management, Governance, etc.)
- Provide thought leadership and drive change by improving governance & processes and building strong relationships with key business partners.
- Promote a positive work environment that encourages productivity, innovation, creativity, teamwork, and delivering meaningful advice which adds value to the overall decision making.
- Act as subject matter expert on processes and controls around project authorizations, business cases, FPT and tracking of the financial impact of projects.

- Proactive self-starter – able to work independently in a relatively unstructured environment with the ability to prioritize deliverables appropriately while meeting deadlines.
- Understanding of accounting guidelines and rules, including project accounting.

- Strong business acumen with a “value-added” mindset - ability to consolidate information into meaningful analysis, providing clear / concise analysis and recommended actions.
- Demonstrated track record of leading process simplification / improvement which reduce inefficiencies and help deliver faster results.
- Organizational awareness and the ability to balance the viewpoints of Finance, Business Units and Project Management Offices.
Specific Educational and Professional Experience Requirements:
- Experience performing project costing or business casing.
- Understanding of Agile, PDLC and Project Management practices would be an asset.
- Experience using Financial and Project Management systems (i.e., CA PPM, Hyperion).
- Accounting designation or working towards a designation (CPA/CGA/MBA) would be an asset.
- Excellent MS Excel/MS PowerPoint/MS Word skills.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Currently enrolled in 3rd – 4th year of an undergraduate degree OR master's degree in of Business / Commerce, Finance, Accounting or a related field.
- Must be enrolled in an undergraduate / master's degree with the intent of going back to school at the start of your work term
