About the Department
Who We Are:
Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County. The Prevention Services is seeking an experienced Senior Clinician to join our program. Prevention Services promotes individual, family and community behavioral health wellness. This position provides a unique opportunity to work with adolescents, parents and community members to promote positive mental health and provide education about mental health and substance misuse related issues. This position is perfect for someone who likes variety in their work and enjoys learning, facilitating and program development.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in human services or related field; three years of experience related to assigned program; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Candidates with verbal and written fluency in both English and Spanish are encouraged to apply.
Considerable knowledge and understanding of fundamental concepts of normal and abnormal human behavior, personality development, family and group dynamics; considerable knowledge of and an ability to apply a variety of psychotherapeutic treatment techniques/modalities; adherence to basic ethics appropriate for a professional helping relationship; knowledge of mental health diagnoses, assessment, and/or psychological and educational testing; some knowledge of consultation program; considerable knowledge of psychosocial history development; very good interviewing and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing. Computer proficiency skills; working knowledge of electronic health record systems. Demonstrated ability to lead others.
Additional Requirements:
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
Position Duties
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Leads suicide awareness, substance abuse prevention, and mental health promotion programming for youth;
• Provides parent education and support in individual and group formats, both in person and virtually;
• Provides community education about mental health and substance misuse related topics;
• Stays up to date with current and new research and best practices in mental health treatment;
• Visits clients at home to conduct assessment, provide treatment and, if appropriate, motivate them to come into agency for service;
• Conducts trauma-informed, evidenced based assessment and treatment services;
• Offers crisis intervention services;
• May serve as a lead worker to Clinicians, interns, etc. and assists in providing clinical supervision and training;
• Collaborates with treatment team regarding client referrals related to medication, hospitalization, or intensive specialized treatment;
• Develops curriculum for programming on mental health related topics; and
• Performs other work as required.
