Position Summary:
The Hose Tester is responsible for conducting rigorous quality and pressure tests on custom-built rubber hoses to ensure they meet customer specifications and industry standards. This position plays a key role in verifying hose performance, identifying defects, and supporting continuous improvement efforts in a production environment that serves high-stakes industries such as aerospace, oil and gas, and agriculture.
Schedule:
- Will start: Monday through Thursday 5:00AM – 3:30PM
- After 2 months, this role will move to a swing shift schedule: Mon through Friday 2:30PM – 11:00PM
Key Responsibilities:
- Pressure & Leak Testing:
Perform hydrostatic, pneumatic, and vacuum tests on finished hose assemblies using specialized testing equipment and test benches. - Inspection & Evaluation:
Visually inspect hoses for defects such as delamination, surface damage, kinks, or improper fittings before and after testing. - Documentation & Reporting:
Accurately record test results, lot numbers, serial numbers, and measurements in quality control documents or digital systems. - Custom Specifications Adherence:
Test hoses built to custom designs, ensuring they meet specific tolerance, pressure ratings, and material requirements outlined in customer orders or engineering drawings. - Equipment Setup & Safety Checks:
Set up and calibrate test equipment. Ensure all safety protocols are followed, including use of restraints, shields, and PPE during high-pressure testing. - Failure Analysis Support:
Work with engineering and production teams to document and analyze failed products and support root cause investigations. - Compliance & Standards:
Follow all applicable testing standards (e.g., ASTM, SAE, ISO, or customer-specific protocols) and ensure adherence to internal quality procedures. - Work Area Management:
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe testing environment. Handle hoses and components with care to avoid damage. - Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education:
High school diploma or GED required. Additional technical certifications or coursework in quality control, hydraulics, or mechanical systems is a plus. - Experience:
- 1–3 years in a quality control or testing role in manufacturing.
- Experience with hydraulic/pneumatic systems, pressure testing, or hose assembly testing.
- Familiarity with hoses for aerospace, oil, or agriculture applications is an asset.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Proficient in using gauges, pressure charts, calipers, and digital measurement tools.
- Basic computer skills for test logging and reporting.
- High attention to detail and safety.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
Work Environment:
- Production and testing environment with exposure to rubber, water, compressed air, and hydraulic fluids.
- Noise, moisture, and moderate physical activity are expected.
- Use of PPE (gloves, hearing protection, eye protection, steel-toe footwear) is mandatory.
