POSITION SCOPE AND PURPOSE: Metrologist perform work involving precision measurement and physical quality comparison to customer part print dimensions and specifications by executing part qualifications with First Article Inspections, GR & R’s and Capability Studies to provide the highest quality product to SMC customers.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform First Article Inspections as required
- Perform process Capability Studies and special customer requirements
- Perform equipment GR & R’s and document measurement method
- Design/Draw fixture concepts for measurement methods
- Perform tests and measurements as necessary for analysis and problem resolution
- Responsible for the accuracy and communicate of activity results/findings with internal personnel
- Regular attendance.
OTHER POSITION DUTIES:
- Program CMM (touch & vision) using PCDMIS
- Program OGP Vision Systems
- Provide information to manufacturing personnel as required to produce parts as agreed on per inspection requirements.
- Support manufacturing In Process Inspectors when measurement issues arise.
- Participate in SMC internal training and in QA Departmental training.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Quality related courses and/or A.S.Q.C. certified mechanical inspector
- Two year experience minimum in the quality field
- GD&T skills, blue print reading and capability studies
- Able to use all QA equipment with minimum supervision.
- Mechanically inclined, strong mathematics skills, basic knowledge in statistics
- Strong attention to detail and documentation
- Ability to provide professional, pleasant, supportive interaction with individuals of all levels of technical abilities
- Team player with the ability to work with minimal direct supervision.
- Strong Microsoft software skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- Balancing, Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Crawling, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Fingering, Grasping, Feeling, Talking, and Hearing.
- Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; reviewing detailed information; viewing a computer terminal; and expansive reading.
- Subject to environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
- Subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current or exposure to chemicals.
- Ability to work for extended periods sitting and looking at computer while completing repetitive motions to include substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- The ability to manage a number of projects at one time with frequent interruptions and tight deadlines.
