The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for planning and supervising the daily cleaning and sanitizing of production equipment, packaging lines, dry storage areas, and all production zones. This role develops, updates, and implements sanitation procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including SQF, SSOP, FSMA, USDA, FDA, and HACCP standards. In collaboration with plant leadership, the supervisor ensures all sanitation activities align with customer expectations, facility protocols, and safety requirements.
Responsibilities:- Lead and manage the facility’s sanitation program, including the development, implementation, and maintenance of Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), sanitation records, Master Cleaning Schedule (MCS), and compliance documentation
- Maintain and operate the sanitation software system, ensuring accurate data entry, tracking, and reporting
- Ensure the facility is always audit-ready from a sanitation standpoint; serve as a point of contact for customer audits, FDA inspections, and third-party audits related to sanitation and chemical usage
- Oversee the pest control program and ensure alignment with regulatory standards and internal policies
- Ensure strict compliance with all regulatory sanitation guidelines, including those from the FDA, NSF, CDC, and other relevant agencies
- Promote a safety-first culture by enforcing the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), proper chemical handling, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures
- Supervise and coordinate all daily and periodic cleaning activities, ensuring the use of correct methods, equipment, and chemicals in accordance with food safety standards
- Collaborate cross-functionally with production, Maintenance, Quality, and Warehouse departments to plan and execute sanitation activities
- Actively participate as a member of the HACCP team and support ongoing food safety initiatives
- Actively participate in safety meetings, required training sessions, and scheduled workplace inspections
- Oversee allergen control and dry-cleaning procedures to prevent cross-contamination and ensure compliance with food safety standards
- Support the environmental monitoring program in collaboration with the Quality department
- Monitor sanitation key performance indicators (KPIs), identify trends, and implement corrective and preventive actions as needed
- Train, coach, and develop sanitation team members on proper cleaning procedures, food safety principles, and workplace safety practices
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to enhance sanitation processes, efficiency, and overall effectiveness

- Must be highly motivated, able to follow direction, and perform assigned work duties independently with minimal supervision
- Must be able to speak, listen, and effectively communicate with team members both verbally and in writing
- Must be able to work collaboratively with multiple departments and plant leadership
- Able to read, understand, and strictly follow written procedures for multiple controlled processes
- Able to compose policies and procedures pertaining to cleaning and sanitation
- Good understanding of and strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Policies (GMP)
- Able to identify areas that need attention and either address or report as necessary
- Able to prioritize and meet deadlines within specified time constraints
- Must be able to accurately take instructions and keep records
- This position involves regular bending, stooping, twisting, and lifting
- Required to stand on their feet, walk and perform repetitive tasks up to 12 hours per day
- Able to kneel or squat on an occasional basis and climb stairs on a frequent basis
- Use hands to grip, pinch, handle, reach, or feel on a frequent basis
- Must be able to sit for prolonged periods with frequent repetitive hand motions for keyboard and mouse use and occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting, and lifting/carrying of less than 15 pounds
- Adherence to the company attendance policy is required, including expectations of punctuality and limited unapproved absences.
- Must be able to travel as frequently
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Engineering, or related field (preferred)
- Experience working in a food processing environment required
- 2+ years of experience in food manufacturing sanitation in a supervisory role
- PCQI and HACCP certification required at start of employment or completed shortly after hire
- Extensive knowledge of chemical use in the cleaning/sanitizing process
- Sound understanding of GMP's, SQF, HACCP, OSHA, and USDA regulations
- Proficient in authorizing MCS/MSS and SSOP’s programs
- Experience with cleaning in an Allergen changeover environment a plus
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency in MS Office
