What You’ll Do: The Director, Safey is responsible for executing continuous improvement safety activities within our businesses and fostering a lean environment by gaining buy-in, creating ownership, and transferring knowledge. This position will work collaboratively with local Safety Champions, management teams and cross functional leaders to drive metrics and create a safety-first culture. The Director of Safety and Security is accountable for implementing systems / processes compatible with requirements of relevant Safety certifications and works closely with team leaders across Metrie.
Location: In-Branch, 4 days per week, based out of Vancouver, Toronto, Chicago, Baltimore, or Seattle location.
Key Responsibilities:
At a high level you will
Drive cultural transformation to Safety/Lean continuous improvement culture
Design Metrie Safety policy (e.g., regulatory compliance, MSDS to SDS transition, proactive initiatives, reporting culture)
Travel to various locations for site events and inspections to identify potential hazards
Manage accident and incident investigations, determine probable causes, and recommend corrective actions to track and improve safety inspections at each location
Guide site directors in identifying potential hazards and recommending solutions to prevent them
Design, drive, and implement accident prevention and fire safety programs
Maintain oversight of safety self-audit and inspection programs, ensuring accurate records of such audits are kept
Develop resources at each site to support and manage safety activities effectively
Conduct pre-visit and audit training as needed
Perform post-visit follow-ups, including tracking, auditing, and communicating results
Report findings and implement recommended changes with senior management
As required, participate in M&A activities: Project team member, site inspections, and recommendations
Work flexible schedules as necessary to meet role requirements
Demonstrate proficiency in safety management software and tools
Who You Are:
We would love to hear from you if you have:
A bachelor’s degree in safety management (required)
Safety Certification is an asset (e.g., CRST, CSHO)
A minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing/operations environment (required)
Proven work experience in a similar role, and abilities to build strong relationships and influence with stakeholders across the organization
In-depth knowledge of safety & security regulations across Canada and the USA
Experience with risk assessments and incident reporting
Demonstrated effectiveness in developing and implementing safety programs
A self-starter mindset, capable of functioning in a semi-autonomous environment
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization
The ability to travel up to 40%

In adherence to the principle of pay transparency, we are pleased to disclose the base pay for this full-time position at Metrie. The base pay range for this role is set at CAD $122,000−$142,000 It is important to note that this position may also qualify for discretionary bonuses or commission payments, we reserve the right to make changes to the variable program. The specific base pay within the range will be contingent upon an individual's skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location. Furthermore, it is essential to highlight that our remuneration ranges are established based on the role, level, and location. Please note that the actual pay may vary and can be higher or lower than the posted range based on these factors.
