About Metrc
Metrc is the leading SaaS provider in the highly regulated cannabis industry, delivering innovative solutions adopted by most U.S. jurisdictions. Our mission is to empower customers—state regulators and cannabis businesses—with reliable, compliant, and intuitive technology solutions, including our flagship Metrc suite of web and mobile apps and data products (including dashboards, reports, and analytics tools). We are seeking a visionary and hands-on Director of User Experience (UX) to lead the UX strategy across our entire product portfolio, ensuring seamless, engaging, and compliant experiences that drive user satisfaction and business success.
General Overview
As the Director of User Experience, you will own and actively shape the UX strategy and execution for all Metrc products, including the Metrc suite of web and mobile apps and data products used by state regulators, cannabis businesses, and internal stakeholders (Sales, Customer Success, Senior Leadership). Reporting to the VP of Product, you will be a hands-on leader, directly contributing to design work while mentoring a single UI designer. You will collaborate closely with Product Managers, Engineering, Sales, Customer Success, and Marketing to deliver user-centered solutions in a fast-paced, regulated environment. This role is ideal for a seasoned UX leader with a proven track record in SaaS platforms, mobile applications, and data-driven interfaces, ready to roll up their sleeves and deliver impactful, compliant, and intuitive experiences from day one.
Key Responsibilities

Partner with the VP of Product and cross-functional leaders to align UX goals with product and company strategy, prioritizing user needs and compliance.
Hands-On Design and Execution
Actively contribute to UX design, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing for the Metrc web and mobile apps and data products, leading by example in a hands-on capacity.
Mentor and guide UI designers, providing direction, feedback, and support to ensure high-quality design outputs and professional growth.
Identify skill gaps and recommend training or resources to enhance the UI designer’s capabilities in a regulated industry.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate with Product Managers to translate business and user requirements into intuitive interfaces for the Metrc web and mobile apps and data products.
Work closely with Engineering to ensure UX designs are technically feasible, optimized for performance, and compliant with regulatory standards.
Partner with Sales, Customer Success, and Marketing to align UX with customer onboarding, adoption, and go-to-market strategies, enhancing user satisfaction and retention.
User Research and Insights
Lead user research initiatives to uncover insights from external customers (state regulators, cannabis businesses) and internal users, validating design decisions and prioritizing pain points for web, mobile, and data products.
Use feedback and analytics to iterate on designs, ensuring all products meet diverse user needs and regulatory requirements.
Design Systems and Standards
Establish and maintain a scalable design system and UX standards for the Metrc web and mobile apps and data products, ensuring consistency, accessibility, and compliance across all interfaces.
Advocate for usability, accessibility, and inclusive design practices, accommodating diverse user groups and meeting cannabis industry regulations.
