About the Department

Reporting directly to the Clinical Commander, responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of educational materials for the Williamson County Emergency Medical Services (WCEMS) system.

Position Duties

  • Designs video, photo, and visual materials for education and information purposes to be used internally and externally
  • Assist in the direction, creation, and maintenance of public information
  • Assists with developing, implementing and evaluating distributive training credentialing for new employees of First Responder Organizations (FRO) departments
  • Assists with the education of EMS paramedics and new hires
  • Maintains accurate records of education provided and skills performed
  • Assists with coordination of the WCEMS education schedule
  • Acts as the liaison to colleges and students participating in clinical hours with WCEMS
  • Schedules and maintains record of all non-county employees that participate in rides on a WCEMS unit
  • Assists in the development, maintenance, and adherence to affiliation agreements with educational institutions
  • Generates clinical utilization data for invoicing educational institutions
  • Manages student preceptors
  • Manages distributive continuing education system and generates regular reports on usage
  • Provides an initiation process for student preceptors
  • Provides education, expectations, and support for student preceptors
  • Maintains the WCEMS external website
  • Supports and participates in system-wide scientific research projects 
  • Assists in the development of budget for Clinical Practices
  • Works with Medical Director to evaluate and improve clinical proficiency
  • Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Position involves safely operating a motor vehicle and emergency equipment
  • Position involves prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, lifting, climbing, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities
  • Position involves hearing audible sounds and speaking in a clear, understandable voice
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to:
    • Sit; talk and hear; use fingers, hands and arms to handle, reach and/or operate basic office equipment, objects, tools or controls
    • The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and smell
    • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
  • Work is primarily indoors in an air-conditioned office
  • May be required to work in inclement weather, including extreme heat, cold and wet conditions


IRREGULAR HOURS

  • Work outside of the normal office hours (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) may be required
  • Essential personnel for emergency situations; discretion of department director
  • Regular attendance is required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Prior experience planning, producing, filming, and editing video without assistance
  • Prior experience using data reporting software, cameras, and artificial lighting systems
  • Working knowledge of professional video, animation, photo editing software, and interactive learning production software


LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Required within thirty (30) days of employment

  • Valid driver’s license


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Five (5) years of EMS experience
  • Certified or licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services as a paramedic
