About the Indiana Department of Environmental Management:

Our mission is to implement federal and state regulations to protect human health and the environment while allowing the environmentally sound operations of industrial, agricultural, commercial, and governmental activities vital to a prosperous economy. We issue air, water, and solid and hazardous waste permits that restrict discharges to environmentally safe levels. Staff members inspect and monitor regulated entities; provide compliance and technical assistance; monitor and assess air, land, and water quality; use enforcement actions as necessary to ensure compliance; and respond to incidents involving spills to soil or waters of the state.

 

Role Overview

 

The Solid Waste Program Coordinator works in the Data Management Section of the Science Services Branch to ensure that permitted facilities submit their quarterly tonnage and fee reports. This includes data validation, quality assurance & quality control activities, customer support, and data stewardship. Additionally, this position provides support to other regulatory programs in the Office of Land Quality as needed, including special projects, user guide creation & maintenance, and cross-training with peers to provide backup.

 

 

 

Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the process of receiving electronic reports from regulated entities, including data validation and completeness.
  • Provide customer support to users of the electronic portal.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control activities.
  • Complete data entry projects.
  • Maintain work summaries and user guides.
  • Retrieve data as requested.
  • Cooperate with federal, state, and local environmental and health agencies and the public.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Specialized knowledge of program area, including pertinent rules and regulations

  • Specialized knowledge of applicable legislation, guidelines, agency policy, and professional standards and practices

  • Customer service experience

  • Data stewardship experience

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or a related natural resource field. 
  • Ability to collect and analyze data and prepare documents for administrative and regulatory action. 
  • Ability to apply rules and regulations relating to multiple program areas. 
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well in a group.
