Hiring Range:   $63,242.00 - $73,203.00/year
Work Day/Hours:  9:00am - 6:00pm Monday-Friday, with some evenings and weekends


This position is devoted to providing School-Age Care programs for youth, ages 5-12 including after school programs, summer camps, intersession, and Fun Days. This position serves as the formal supervisor of a recreation services function overseeing Recreation Specialists and part-time staff. Decision-making involves developing, implementing, and supervising a range of recreational programs and services.

Responsible for assessing current needs; conducting community surveys; coordinating program development and staff performing that development; developing recreation and program plans; identifying and contracting with vendors; overseeing facility operations; hiring, training, supervising and evaluating staff; management of behavioral success plans and our emergency management system (EPACT); marketing programs; organizing volunteers; evaluating programs and making modifications; monitoring budgets; providing customer service; maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment; assuring facility cleanliness and preparing reports.

Supervises support staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline, and termination procedures.

Position Duties

  • Supervises School-Age Care Programs and related programs and events; develops program or event plans and schedules; assesses community needs through surveys and other tools; supervises staff and volunteers, including planning, assigning, and evaluating work; evaluates programs and makes modifications; audits recreation facility operations and updates operating policies and procedures; and monitors program expenditures.

  • Supervises facility usage and scheduling operations; ensures facility safety and cleanliness; assesses program and event needs and facility capacity; monitors supply inventories and ensures adequacy; identifies and contracts with vendors, gathering quotes and bids and ordering supplies.

  • Prepares, reviews, processes, and/or maintains reports, records, work orders, and other documentation; maintains databases; processes invoices, payments, purchase orders and deposits; enters, compiles, and reconciles data; prepares information reports; and proofs work for accuracy and completeness.

  • Oversees program and/or facility customer service; responds to and resolves escalated customer service issues; responds to inquiries, concerns, and complaints from residents, contractors, vendors, community groups, City departments, and/or external agencies; and facilitates and promotes programs and events.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Associate’s degree in early childhood development, education, recreation, leisure services, or related field.
  • Four years of School-Age Care experience, including After School, Intersession and Summer Camp.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Valid, unrestricted, North Carolina - Class C driver's license "or" if you currently have another states driver's license, must be willing and able to obtain a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of hire.
  • A valid Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED– with Anaphylaxis and Epinephrine Auto Injector Certification within the first six months of employment.
  • Basic School Age Care certification required within one year of employment.

Other Qualifications

  • Strong leadership and communication skills, and experience with recreation software systems are preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Knowledge of and experience in utilizing behavior modification techniques for school-age care participants.
