Job Title: Millwork Apprentice
Reports to: Specialty Millwork Supervisor
FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt
Division: Greensboro, NC
Summary:
Carpenter Apprentice who will be responsible for making custom millwork products according to quality and time standards. The projects will include timber products (corbels, gable truss), cabinetry, doors, etc. We operate a team atmosphere and are looking for motivated individuals, with a basic understanding of woodworking and a desire to grow and learn the industry. Supervision and training will be provided to help advance team member’s skill and knowledge.
Job Duties:
- Read and interpret shop drawings and architectural plans.
- Set up and operate woodworking machines such as table saws, jointers, planers, shapers, and sanders
- Assemble millwork components according to specification and quality standards.
- Inspect materials and final products to ensure accuracy and finish quality.
- Maintain tools and equipment and ensure a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
- Performs other duties, as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Basic understanding of hand / power tools including hammers, chisels, drills, and miter saws.
- Basic understanding of woodworking materials, joinery techniques, and finishing processes, but not required.
- Must be able to read a tape measure
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved, written or oral instructions
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2+ Years of experience in custom woodworking fabrication preferred
- Experience with both hand tools and industrial woodworking machinery
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; outdoor weather conditions; and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); work in precarious places; extreme cold (non-weather); and extreme heat (non-weather).
