About the Department

This is a part-time position 28-30 hours a week in the Human Services Division. Under supervision, operates a mini-bus to transport senior citizens on request from a route sheet, and perform other related work as assigned. This is an hourly position offering no supplemental employment benefits other than salary.

Position Duties

This position is responsible for organizing and coordinating a transportation program for senior citizens. Duties include establishing a daily transportation scheduledrivingand operating a mini-bus; delivering and picking-up people according to a schedule; assisting the elderly in boarding and leaving the busoperating a wheelchair lift if necessarykeeping the interior and exterior of the vehicle clean and delivering it to the garage for repair and maintenance work; operating a communications system; managing transportation money; maintaining client records; completing incident and accident report forms as necessary; and preparing reports as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to work with the senior population in an energeticpositive, and courteous mannerestablish and maintain a team approach with co-workers; demonstrate good organization skillsunderstand and carry out oral and written instructionsuse correct English, grammarand know basic arithmetic; read a street map and physically locate street addresses; work safely and efficientlyand recognize hazardous driving conditions quickly and accuratelyand adopt effective courses of action. Knowledge of basic automotive caremaintenance requirementsvehicle operationand state and local traffic lawsMust have a valid California Class B driver’s license, possess a good driving recordwhich will be verified with a DMV background investigationand CPR/First Aid certification.

Graduation from High School or G.E.D. and a minimum of one year experience in the operation of a mini-bus passenger vehicle requiring possession of a Class B driver's license to transport passengers. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting including use of standard office equipment, including a computer; to operate a motor vehicle; to visit various City sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, running, throwing, and stooping in the performance of daily activities, including leading recreational activities.  Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 50 pounds.
