Office Details: The Accountant, Property Operations will be expected to office out of San Francisco office 3 days a week. 


Target Pay: $87,296 per year + annual discretionary bonus 


Role Overview: Prime Residential’s Accountant, Property Operations plays a vital role in maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial reporting across our property management portfolio. This position is responsible for managing the financial close process, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, assisting with budget development, and generating financial reports that drive strategic decision-making. Working closely with corporate, regional, and on-site teams, the Accountant, Property Operations ensures adherence to accounting policies, GAAP standards, and industry best practices. This role also supports internal audits, financial compliance initiatives, and continuous process improvements to enhance operational efficiency. Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities: 

Financial Reporting & General Ledger Management 

  • Compile and analyze financial data for entry into financial statements and accounting reports. 
  • Prepare and record journal entries in the general ledger by verifying calculations, ensuring accuracy, and reconciling figures. 
  • Review and validate budgets, revenue, expenses, payroll entries, and invoices, investigating and resolving discrepancies. 
  • Complete bank reconciliations, process wire transfers, and ensure the accuracy of mortgage payments and distributions. 

Budgeting & Financial Analysis 

  • Monitor and analyze revenue and expenditure trends, recommending budget adjustments to maintain financial control. 
  • Assess financial resources for property acquisitions, dispositions, and closings, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives. 
  • Evaluate budgets and expenditures related to contracts, grants, and various funding sources at local, state, and federal levels. 

Audit & Compliance 

  • Act as a liaison to internal and external auditors, providing necessary documentation, research, and explanations to support audits. 
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, internal policies, and industry standards, reporting any violations or inconsistencies. 
  • Identify areas for improvement in compliance, efficiency, and financial processes, recommending and implementing enhancements. 

Collaboration & Support 

  • Partner with on-site property managers to assist with financial close activities, answer inquiries, and ensure timely reporting. 
  • Work with contractors and subcontractors on financial transactions, including draw schedules, job budget cost variances, and lien releases. 
  • Provide ongoing support to teams by preparing financial reports, analysis, and administrative documentation as needed. 

Process Improvement & Industry Knowledge 

  • Continuously seek opportunities to enhance efficiency and productivity within financial operations. 
  • Stay updated on industry best practices, evolving financial regulations, and new technologies through professional development and training. 

Safety & Risk Management 

  • Follow company safety protocols, reporting any equipment malfunctions, injuries, accidents, or hazards to the appropriate personnel. 

Requirements

 

  • BA/BS degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.   
  • Three (3+) years of accounting experience, preferably within property management, real estate, or corporate finance. 
  • Proficiency in accounting software and financial systems (e.g., RealPage, Yardi or OneSite), with advanced Microsoft Excel and strong competency in Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Deep understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, general ledger management, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control principles. 
  • Strong attention to detail with proven experience analyzing complex financial data, identify discrepancies, and ensure accuracy in reporting. 
  • Highly organized with experience managing multiple projects and deadlines independently, demonstrating a strong sense of ownership and accountability. 
  • Able to apply logical reasoning, navigate ambiguity, and adapt processes to ensure financial compliance and efficiency. 
  • Demonstrated experience navigating changing business needs, streamline processes, and drive continuous improvement.
