About the Department

Central San, a progressive public utility, is seeking a temporary Staff Engineer. This temporary position is expected to last approximately one year and is the entry-level classification in the professional engineering series. Assigned to the Environmental and Regulatory Compliance Division of the Engineering and Technical Services Department, the position will perform apprentice-level professional engineering work in the environmental compliance, planning, and investigation of Central San’s wastewater treatment plant and related facilities.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and to work across multiple functions and disciplines.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects while balancing District priorities and objectives.
  • Strong data analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
 The successful candidate may perform the following duties:
  • Perform data analyses of wastewater treatment plant processes.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports and correspondences to demonstrate conformance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation of environmental permit applications and subsequent implementation of permit requirements.
  • Apply engineering knowledge and assist in conducting root cause analyses to investigate compliance issues related to wastewater processes.
  • Support treatment plant’s compliance emissions testing program and conduct occasional emissions verifications.
  • Interpret regulations and technical studies and assist in the development of compliance assurance strategies.
  • Perform environmental inspections within the treatment plant.
  • Coordinate with operations, maintenance, and engineering staff to meet regulatory obligations, including compliance training, development of standard operating procedures, and process controls improvements.
  • Assist with pilot projects and special studies to ensure future regulatory compliance. 
  • Assist in the management of Power BI databases and dashboards.

Position Duties

Education:

Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in engineering or a closely related field.

Experience: None required. 

Licenses and Certifications:

Possession of an Engineer-In-Training certificate is desirable.
