Overview:

This position is integrated within a multidisciplinary team in order to increase knowledge about behavioral health treatment within community settings.  The intern will increase competency by observing and practicing therapeutic processes while receiving supervision and guidance throughout the internship.  The intern will practice individualized assessment, coordination of services, and therapeutic counseling in individual and group settings.  This position will provide direction for planning, implementation, and evaluation of client needs.  This intern provides collaboration with the team consistent with the Ohio Mental Health and Addictions Services and the Joint Commission treatment standards.

This position is designed to facilitate the care of clients with mild to moderate behavioral health disorders.  The intern will collaborate with other team members and other providers in the community to ensure access to needed services.

Responsibilities:
  • Advocates for customer access to services.
  • Uses supervision and consultation to learn therapist responsibilities.
  • Practices personal reflection and self-correction to assure continual professional development.
  • Integrates multiple sources of knowledge throughout the workday to make the best choice possible.
  • Completes assessments of daily functioning and report observations to clinical team.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills while working with individuals and groups.
  • Participates in staff organizational meetings and treatment planning review meetings.
  • Provides multi-stage individual and group treatment in the office and community settings.
  • Develops individualized service plan(s).
  • Consults with community agencies to increase knowledge about resources available to customers..
  • Observes co-workers to increase knowledge about multiple methods and therapeutic processes to meet the needs of the customer.
  • Collaborates with all colleagues and customers for effective treatment outcomes.
  • Collects, organizes, interprets, and documents client data, progress and contacts.
  • Transports customers to appointments as needed.
  • Increases ability to develop and write mutually agreed-on intervention goals.
  • Critically analyzes, monitors, and evaluates interventions during supervision sessions
Qualifications:

Education and Licenses:  Pursuing Bachelors or Master’s degree at accredited educational facility with a counselor (CT) or social work (SWT) trainee licensure designation.  Must maintain a valid Driver’s License & auto insurance.

Experience:   Minimal experience serving clients with severe and persistent mental illness along with education in the area of clinical skills and counseling.

Specialized knowledge, skills, or abilities: Strong commitment to customer rights.  Skills and competence to establish supportive, trusting relationships with customers.  Knowledge and skills regarding customers with co-occurring disorders.
