The ideal Divisional Controller is responsible for all accounting/financial functions at VSS International, Inc. and VSS Emultech. This position partners with division management, corporate executives, its shareholders, and others in making educated economic decisions for the business. This high-profile position reports to the Corporate Controller and works closely to support the Divisional General Manager and senior management in increasing the company’s efficiency and profitability. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Works with the Divisional General Manager and the leadership team to formulate the business's medium to long term financial and strategic plans.
  • Partners with division management to ensure project revenue and costs are recognized to the appropriate construction project and in conformity with GAAP. 
  •  Provides reports and analysis to help ensure projects meet or exceed financial targets.
  • Prepares divisional financial statements, according to accounting close schedules, that conform with GAAP, government regulations and company policies.
  • Coordinates the compellation of divisional budgets and forecasts. 
  • Prepares timely monthly, quarterly sales and use tax filings including any needed reconciliations.
  • Manages A/R and A/P processing and ensures timely reconciliation of all divisional balance sheet accounts.
  • Ensures Job Status Report and work in process entries are accurate and completed on schedule.
  • Improve the inventory controls & ensures inventory is accurately recorded and reconciled.
  • Ensure that material sales are invoiced within 2 business working days. 
  • Run the monthly financial reviews with Operations and the Corporate team.
  • Ensure equipment usage and fuel and other expenses are recorded accurately and on time.
  • Establishes and maintains internal controls that ensure the integrity of all systems, processes and data.
  • Proactively identifies and leads process improvements within the department and across the company.
  • Partners with division management to ensure management has financial support to understand and analyze financials as well as make informed business decisions.  
  • Manages and develops accounting staff. Ensures staff has training and resources to complete all monthly/daily financial transactions in the most effective manner.
  • Supports the Corporate Controller in external reporting, audits, tax filings and other related tasks.
  • File timely, accurate State and Local taxes and Business license   
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops or classes; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies. 
  • Expected and accountable to maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers and management.
  • Completes divisional and corporate document preparation, organization, and filing as required.
  • Special projects and research, as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • This role supervises four other positions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have excellent communications skills both written and verbal to interact with peers, executive management and customers.
  • Proven leadership qualities.
  • Must possess the ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects utilizing organizational skills and communications skills.
  • Strong sense of responsibility regarding timely and accurate completion of work, and a strong commitment to corporate goals.
  • Must be capable of functioning under fast pace stressful working conditions.
  • Solid experience coordinating the annual budgeting process, creating ad hoc financial analysis models, analyzing investment opportunities utilizing NPV, IRR, etc.
  • Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.

EDUCATIONS and/or WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in accounting or finance – CPA preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the construction industry
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing an accounting team
  • Experience managing month-end process.
  • Balance sheet reconciliation experience
  • Strong customer service skills with good writing and communication skills
  • Demonstrated success in self-starting, upbeat, demanding/opportunistic environments.
  • Prior experience as an assistant or controller (highly desired)
  • Vista Viewpoint (ERP) knowledge is preferred.
  • Advanced excel skills, and ability to create SQL pivot tables.
