About the job:

Facilitate the operation of site specific sport programs under the supervision and direction of other staff. Maintain supervision and security over the sports facility. Promote an environment consistent with program philosophies and goals. Assist with set-up and clean-up, keep scorebook and run scoreboard during games.


A day in the life:

  • Organize and facilitate sport programs which may include the following: score keeping, bookkeeping, and running of the game clock.
  • Supervise patrons in sport programs and ensure safe use of facilities. Maintain security of facility. Report vandalism and theft.
  • Maintain all required records and forms.
  • Respond to accidents and incidents according to procedures. Notify supervisor and appropriate law enforcement or emergency services if necessary. Maintain all related records.
  • Set up and breakdown of equipment and facilities.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of facilities and equipment.
  • Operate small tools and electronic equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with players, volunteers, coaches and spectators regarding game information and behavior as needed.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.
  • Participate in district wide special events as needed.

Work Schedule:

  •  Adult Hockey games are Monday-Thursday 6:30pm-midnight.
  • Scorekeepers will be expected to work one night a week during a specific league.  

Requirements

What you’ll need for success:

Considerable Knowledge of:

  • Rules and protocols of individual and team sports; safety guidelines related to assignment.

Skill and Ability to:

  • Follow through on directions; demonstrate a strong work ethic
  • Interact with a variety of patrons/participants
  • Effectively communicate with players, coaches, spectators and school staff 
  • Establish and maintain positive, respectful and cooperative relationships with all contacts.

What we’re looking for:

Education, Experience, and Training

  1. High school graduation or equivalency or currently attending high school; AND
  2. Some previous related volunteer or work experience with organized sports and game management; OR
  3. Any satisfactory combination of experience and training. 


Supervision Received:

Works under the general supervision of a supervisor. Receives ongoing and specific direction from lead and supervisory staff. Carries out work with some independence, but work and decisions are typically reviewed prior to final execution.


Working Conditions:

 The following are working conditions, including environmental and physical demands, required for this classification.  

  • Depending on program, duties may be performed either indoors or outdoors, which may include working in extreme weather conditions. 
  • Work schedule is varied and may require evenings, weekends and holidays. 
  • Hours vary depending upon specific sports program needs. 
  • The flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention much or all of the time. 
  • Physical exertion includes frequent walking, bending and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted, pushing, pulling and kneeling in order to deliver equipment and supplies. 
  • Job stress may include dealing with crowds, uncooperative participants, difficult individuals, exposure to illness and periods of continuous demand
