Job Summary
This is a temporary position, under direction of the Marshal Division, to ensure security for the Reno Municipal Court by the monitoring of the closed-circuit television monitors, door access system and Marshal Division radio traffic.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
The Court Security Officer is responsible for monitoring the Reno Municipal Court’s closed circuit television system, door access systems and internal radio channels. The Court Security Officer must be able to recognize potential problems as they occur and act in accordance with established policies and procedures.
The Court Security Officer must also be able to provide accurate directions to patrons within the Mills Lane Justice Center with knowledge of the different court schedules, responsibilities and programs.
Work Schedule:
Monday-Thursday: 8:00am - 5:00pm
Not to exceed 1039 hours per fiscal year.
Position Duties
Essential Functions:
Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Monitoring and controlling the closed-circuit television system within the Reno Municipal Court with the ability to detect potential security risks.
Monitoring the Lenel door access system for the Reno Municipal Court and directing responses to active alarms per policy and procedure.
Facilitating radio communication between the Marshal Division and other law enforcement agencies within the court complex.
Maintain assigned duty stations located throughout the court facility and provide accurate information to patrons upon request.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
Principles and techniques used in dealing with defendants and the public.
Court processes.
Basic principles of criminal law.
Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
Modern office methods, procedures and equipment including software and applications.
Ability to:
Understand and perform procedures and functions of the assigned position.
Understand and perform the operations, services and activities of the assigned program within the court system.
Observe accurately and remember names, faces, numbers, incidents and places.
Analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine proper course of action.
Act quickly and calmly in emergencies.
Meet and deal with the public tactfully and effectively.
Exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Experience and Training Guidelines:
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Two years of experience working with the general public which may include law enforcement, private security, or related experience; Or any equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
License or Certificate:
Possession of/or ability to obtain a valid Nevada driver's license within one month of hiring.
Special Requirements:
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, climb, and lift 25 lbs.
ability to visually observe screens on closed circuit television monitors and Lenel door
access system monitors; exposure to noise, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards.
