Introducing The Shelborne by Proper, a holistic restoration of the iconic Miami beachfront hotel. This extensive renovation preserves the landmark’s 1940 art deco distinction and authentic charm while modernizing interiors from top to bottom — all embracing the rich heritage originally crafted by Morris Lapidus and Igor Polevitzky, two of the most celebrated Art Deco architects of the mid-twentieth century.
The Shelborne introduces four vibrant new food & beverage destinations to the neighborhood, each suited for warm weather dining, with an all-day signature restaurant, a lobby bar-lounge, and curated cafe. Resort amenities include a spacious pool and lush garden lounge, indoor-outdoor cabanas, sundeck terrace, state-of-the-art fitness center, dedicated access to a private beach club, and more than 15,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor meeting & event space.
Position Overview
We are seeking a strategic, results-oriented Director of Group Sales to lead group business development. This individual will be responsible for driving group room revenue across corporate, creative, and cultural segments—developing thoughtful strategies, forging key relationships, and turning high-impact opportunities into long-term partnerships.
This role sits at the intersection of sales acumen, client service, and cultural fluency. You’ll shape the group positioning of The Shelborne by Proper while collaborating across departments to ensure every guest touchpoint reflects the spirit and standards of the Proper brand.
Responsibilities:
Strategy & Leadership
- Own and evolve the group sales strategy with a clear focus on pace, profitability, and property-wide impact
- Monitor market shifts and lead generation performance to inform smart, adaptable sales decisions
- Build and manage a rolling 12-month calendar of need periods and deploy promotional strategies where necessary
- Represent The Shelborne by Proper at select tradeshows, activations, and client events that align with our brand values
Client Development
- Act as the lead point of contact for complex, high-value group opportunities—from pitch through conversion
- Actively prospect new accounts while deepening relationships with existing partners
- Negotiate with a balance of rigor and creativity to secure value-aligned business that enhances our guest mix
- Host immersive site visits, familiarization experiences, and client entertainment that showcase the energy and intent of the property
- Ensure seamless hand-off to Conference Services and Operations while upholding Proper’s hospitality philosophy
