The Capital Planning and Engineering Services Department currently has an exciting career opportunity for a Municipal Engineer. The Municipal Engineer is responsible to ensure all new infrastructure being added to the existing Water, Wastewater and Stormwater system meets standards, both local and provincial, as well as the needs of the Water and Wastewater operations staff at the City of Lethbridge. This includes providing engineering expertise and oversight in water distribution, wastewater collection, and stormwater management systems.
Specific responsibilities will include:
Review and approve new subdivision, outline and area structure plans
Approve new property servicing applications from external customers
Respond to line assignment requests from external stakeholders
Actively review and update the Sewer and Water Construction Specifications and drawings
Prepare ad-hoc system analysis, reports and recommendations as requested by management and utility staff
Liaise with regulatory agencies to ensure departmental compliance
Provide engineering and technical support to the utility operations and maintenance staff
Coordinate and manage design and implementation of Water and Wastewater Capital projects
Maintain positive relationships with internal and external agencies. consultants, contractors, and suppliers
Assist and/or manage capital construction projects as needed
Assist with long range system planning
Assist with asset management initiatives relative to inventory, condition assessment, work order system and asset management programs
Prepare and make presentations to committees, City Council and in other public forums
Provide input into capital and operating investment programs as well as assist with Provincial and Federal grant applications and expenditures for water, wastewater and stormwater projects
The Ideal Candidate will have the following skills and qualifications:
An Engineering degree with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience and considerable knowledge of engineering principles and practices relating to the design, construction, operation and maintenance of water, wastewater and stormwater systems
Sound Understanding of modern engineering methods and materials, and knowledgeable of provincial regulations and City of Lethbridge standards
Ability to participate in the development of long-term plans and programs and to make sound professional recommendations on matters of utility operations and asset management
Ability to establish and maintain effective working and public relationships with staff, City officials, governmental agencies, and the public
Ability to organize and participate in team activities. Ability to effectively develop and communicate technical recommendations. Effective communication skills, both in written and oral, and the ability to make presentations to groups
Ability to independently complete complex hydraulic modeling
Member or eligibility for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta
