We have an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner to join our team of talented professionals.
As Nurse Practitioner in the Behavioral Health Urgent Care Program, you will be responsible for the following:
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric and medical assessments, including mental status exams, risk evaluations, and physical health screenings.
- Formulate psychiatric diagnoses and differential diagnoses based on DSM-5 criteria and clinical findings.
- Evaluate the impact of medical conditions, medications, and social determinants on behavioral health.
- Engage clients, their family members, guardians and other supporters to address needs and crisis de-escalation.
- Work collaboratively with members of the BHUC team to deliver services to all clients.
- Maintain regular contact with team members and other providers to coordinate service delivery efforts.
- Coordinate with the client’s CRSP and/or other health care providers to ensure continuity of care.
- Medication monitoring, assistance, administration and education.
- Medication disbursement when applicable.
- Crisis intervention.
- Adhere to current Joint Commission and MDHHS standards.
- Document all face-to-face service activity and phone contacts within expected timeframes.
- Respond in writing to routine chart reviews and audits.
- Participate in regularly scheduled clinical supervision, case consultations and team meetings.
- Perform within acceptable standards of productivity.
- Maintain appropriate state licensure or certification;
- Complete 24 hours of program and/or position specific training on an annual basis.
- Follow a professional code of ethics.
- Maintain appropriate professional ethics and boundaries;
- Abide by all Guidance Center policies and procedures;
- Other duties as necessary or requested.
Requirements
To qualify for this position, you will need the following:
- Must have a Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Must possess and retain a current license as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan.
- Certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) strongly preferred; Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) with psychiatric experience considered.
- Must have current DEA registration and prescriptive authority for controlled substances in the State of Michigan.
- Must have CPR and First Aid Certification.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience treating children and adults with mental health, and one year (1) treating or working with individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities, is required (may include time spent in fieldwork or internship).
- Experience in crisis intervention, urgent care, or emergency psychiatric services desirable.
- Must meet the requirements for QMHP, CMHP and QIDP within 120 days of hire. Must possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Candidates must demonstrate competency working collaboratively with clients, family members, agency staff and community partners.
- Must have the ability to work both independently and as a member of an integrated team. Must have strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills.
- Must have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Must have the ability to effectively manage crisis situations.
- Additional requirements include a nonjudgmental approach that reflects cultural competency and sensitivity to the unique needs and diverse experiences of adults with mental illness and/or co-occurring substance use disorders and their families.
