Description
CLX Engineering is seeking a results-driven Procurement Manager to establish and lead our newly formed Procurement Department. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for sourcing, vendor management, purchasing operations, and cross-functional procurement strategy. You’ll become the subject matter expert in our in-house created procurement system—troubleshooting, optimizing, and training others as needed.
The ideal candidate is assertive, detail-oriented, and adept at building strategic supplier relationships while managing daily procurement execution. This role requires close collaboration with Engineering, Manufacturing, Shipping/Receiving, and Finance to ensure procurement excellence that supports company goals.
We are looking for a seasoned professional with 5–8+ years of experience in part sourcing and procurement, preferably in a manufacturing or engineering-driven environment. Individuals ready to expand their leadership capabilities are encouraged to apply. This is a salaried exempt position.
Key Responsibilities
Department Leadership &Strategy
- Lead the Procurement Department, providing direction and oversight for an existing Purchasing Specialist.
- Develop and implement procurement policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Ensure procurement practices align with company goals for cost, quality, and delivery.
- Drive adoption and optimization of procurement systems and tools.
Sourcing & Supplier Management
- Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to secure competitive agreements.
- Maintain and strengthen strategic supplier relationships to ensure quality and responsiveness.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Quality to qualify alternate parts or vendors as needed.
- Define and monitor departmental KPIs (on-time delivery, quality, responsiveness), taking action as needed.
Operational Procurement
- Convert engineering BOMs into actionable procurement plans.
- Procure parts and materials in accordance with precise specifications and delivery timelines.
- Anticipate and flag sourcing challenges, providing alternate solutions where possible.
- Maintain proactive communication with stakeholders regarding shortages, design changes, or delays.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Act as a liaison between Engineering, Manufacturing, and external suppliers.
- Provide procurement input during product development and design-for-manufacturability discussions.
- Ensure procurement timelines are aligned with production schedules and cost targets.
Cost Optimization & Process Improvement
- Conduct spend analyses and identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency gains.
- Support make-vs-buy and sourcing decisions based on cost, quality, and lead-time metrics.
- Streamline procurement workflows and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Systems & Reporting
- Lead the implementation or enhancement of procurement tools and systems.
- Maintain accurate procurement data (lead times, pricing, supplier profiles, etc.).
- Develop reporting dashboards to support procurement decision-making and performance tracking
Requirements
Required
- 5–8+ years of procurement experience in a manufacturing or engineering-focused environment.
- Experience sourcing components based on BOMs and technical specifications.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and product documentation.
- Strong background in supplier negotiation and contract management.
- Demonstrated leadership in process development and team oversight.
Preferred
- ERP or procurement system implementation or optimization experience.
- Strong analytical and cost modeling skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and proactive communication across teams.
- Adaptable and resourceful in fast-paced, evolving environments.
