The County of San Diego Registrar of Voters (ROV), Logistics Operations has temporary job opportunities for the position of Election Worker Specialist.   Applicants must be dependable, detailed-oriented, energetic, and enthusiastic.


Requirements, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

Requirements:

  • Must wear employee ID badge, access card and official yellow ROV vest
  • Must follow all health and safety protocols
  • Must represent the Registrar of Voters in a professional/non-partisan manner

Knowledge of the following:

  • California vehicle laws and safety guidelines 
  • Warehouse safety practices with emphasis on proper and safe lifting techniques 
  • Basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)
  • Basic use of a personal computer, printer, radios, phones, copy machines, calculators, or other office equipment (not required, but a plus)

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and courteously with diverse individuals
  • High attention to detail to ensure accuracy in completing tasks and maintaining quality standards (matching of numbers, sorting, and packaging)
  • Ability to follow established orders, procedures, and protocols with consistency and reliability
  • Skilled in organization, prioritizing tasks, and managing time efficiently to meet deadlines
  • Adaptable to changing conditions with ability to shift focus quickly from one project to another while maintaining productivity
  • Dependable team player with strong work ethic and commitment to safety and efficiency
  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adjust to evolving priorities
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions accurately
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing across teams and stakeholders
  • Work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Physically capable of meeting job demands, including:
    • Lifting up to 40 lbs.
    • Performing repetitious tasks
    • Frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, grasping, and reaching
  • Flexible to working overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed


Specialized Skills (desired but not required)

  • Experience driving 16 foot or larger trucks 
  • Experience operating a forklift (Current certification is a plus) or willingness to be trained
  • Valid California Driver’s License (required for driving vehicles on County tasks)


Schedule

  • Assignment will be approximately 4 - 12 weeks
  • Shift will be part time, up to 8 hours per day with day, night, weekend and overtime schedules as needed.  Some overtime will be mandatory to meet the needs of the Election.


Examples of Duties 

  1. Assemble poll worker supplies by counting, sorting, scanning, matching sequence numbers, and packaging, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail
  2. Load supplies into storage containers of various size following a load list
  3. Operate a mid-sized vehicle or 16’ box truck to deliver and pick up supplies, following a load list and scheduled routes 
  4. Conduct diagnostic testing and prepare voting systems by following detailed verbal and written instructions
  5. Safely move items of varying sizes and quantities using equipment such as pallet jacks and hand trucks/dollies
  6. Store supplies in designated locations in an organized and secure manner
  7. Load and unload trucks, using specialized equipment such as dock levelers when handling heavy materials
  8. Maintain warehouse cleanliness and organization by using cleaning tools and supplies, including brooms, mops, disinfectants, and solvents
  9. Receive and unpack supplies, verifying descriptions and quantities against records
  10. Conduct inventory counts and maintain accurate supply records


WORK PERIOD

Applicants are required to attend a two-hour orientation once hired.  The orientation will be conducted by Logistics team members on the first day of work.  

Candidates selected for this position, will have staggered start dates that will correspond with the election cycle.  The start and end date of a candidate is based on the workload of the Logistics program.   Once an applicant receives background clearance, they will be notified by a Logistics supervisor and assigned their shift.  All candidates hired for this program will work at the ROV’s main office located at 5600 Overland Ave, San Diego, CA.
