GENERAL STATEMENT

Under general supervision, the IPCDC Student Assistant Cook assists the IPCDC Cook with meal preparation for the preschool and school-age nutrition programs for approximately 160 children and 45 student assistant caregivers. The nutrition program includes breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks prepared at designated times. In addition, meal preparation is required for children with special dietary needs. The incumbent is also responsible for adhering to the requirements of the California Department of Education's California Child Care Food Program (CACFP) and assures compliance with all Licensing and Public Health regulations regarding food handling, preparation and storage. Incumbent also complies with the IPCDC’s meal and children’s program policies and procedures including guidelines for interacting with children.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Assists the IPCDC Cook with the preparation and service of meals including “seconds” in a family style meal setting.

2. Under the direction of the IPCDC Cook, prepares and serves afternoon snack for preschool and school age children.

3. Performs clean-up of lunch and snack dishes which includes safe storage of any unused leftovers.

4. Maintains cleanliness of kitchen, equipment and appliances. Follows appropriate sanitation procedures.

5. Assists with maintenance of clean and organized storage areas that includes recycling storage area.

6. Performs food and food supply inventory and reports any shortages to IPCDC Cook. Assists the IPCDC Cook in food preparation for special events such as fundraisers and staff training retreats. Demonstrates regular attendance and punctuality.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or equivalent general education degree (GED). Minimum of one year food service experience preferred but not required. Experience and general knowledge of safe food handling practices.

Knowledge and Abilities

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read, understand and follow recipe directions and adjust recipes in accordance with attending children. Ability to weigh and/or measure food ingredients. Ability to work with children and adults within the established philosophy of the Child Development Center.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

· Serv-Safe or comparable food handler’s certification.

· Blood Borne Pathogens Training

· CPR and First Aid Certification preferred

· Fingerprint Clearance

· Physical Exam and TB test every 2 years

· Required immunization status

Mandated Reporter

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
