About the role
The Early Childhood Outcomes (ECO) Division transforms lives through high-quality early childhood education and care. The Division supports the NSW Plan for Public Education by overseeing investments in the critical first 5 years of life and the growth of the early childhood education and care sector. The Division’s focus is two-fold - supporting children, families and the community now, as well as investing in long-term reforms to deliver positive outcomes in the future.
It’s an exciting time to join us as we work with our colleagues across ECO on broad reforms for the Early Childhood Education & Care sector.
The Senior Project Officer will lead a Project Management function within the Major Project Design team. The team is currently developing policy and associated implementation plans related to how the NSW Government can better support early childhood education and care in underserved communities.
The work is stimulating, challenging and highly collaborative.
You will be working with a dedicated group of people within the branch and division as well as a range of teams in ECO, across DoE and other government departments, and a broad range of stakeholders.
The Senior Project Officer will be responsible for:
- Developing and maintaining high-level workplans with consideration of overall strategic goals
- Tracking project progress and providing regular reports to stakeholders
- Establishing and maintaining systems to identify, assess and mitigate the impact of issues and risks on project timelines, budget and outcomes
- Updating the program budget and undertaking financial reporting, with the support of central finance colleagues
- Establishing effective approaches, tools and guidance to support consistent delivery and build project management capability across the whole project team
- Establishing and maintaining systems to ensure appropriate record keeping and audit readiness
- Developing and implementing appropriate change management approaches

About you
The ideal candidate will have:
- Demonstrated capability to work effectively through uncertainty and change in a reform and/or dynamic environment.
- Strong ability to link project management activities to broader strategic objectives and develop practical solutions to challenges.
- Demonstrated experience in building project management capabilities in a project team
- Experience developing good working relationships with stakeholders and team members
- Knowledge of the early childhood education and care sector.
Essential requirements of the role
- Advanced project management capabilities and ability to understand and apply effective planning, coordination and control methods.
- Experience in managing projects which involve significant policy or service delivery reform.
- A valid Working with Children Check for paid employment.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
Key knowledge and experience
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, or demonstrated equivalent knowledge and/or experience.
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
