The J. Turner Hood Elementary School is seeking a full time General Paraprofessional to support the kindergarten program. In this role you will provide support to the kindergarten program, the building principal, and teaching staff in the day-to-day operation of the school, including classroom support, cafeteria and recess supervision, arrival and dismissal procedures, and instructional support. North Reading Public Schools is actively looking to build a diverse workforce to ensure all students feel welcome, safe, and valued for who they are and supported to reach their potential.

 

This position is five (5) days per week (Monday through Friday) and 35.0 hours/week.

 

Essential Duties

  • Assist the classroom teacher in creating an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
  • Provide assistance to students in instructional activities
  • Provide physical assistance to students as required
  • Implement good behavior management skills with students
  • Support teacher with the preparation of instructional materials
  • Provide school-based supervision of arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, bus duty, and /or classrooms
  • Assist the principal and staff in the daily management of the school
  • Assume other duties/responsibilities as designated by the Principal, Teacher, and/or Designee

Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and problem solve independently
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Ability to physically assist students, as assigned
  • At least two (2) years of relevant experience preferred
    • This may include a background in education including college and/or work experience 
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
