MetaPhase is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in its Financial Systems Modernization (FSM) efforts. This role is responsible for leading the design, administration, and optimization of AWS cloud infrastructure, with a focus on both systems architecture and data architecture. The Systems Engineer will play a central role in supporting architecture best practices, data management, archive strategies, and integration activities using AWS-hosted environments, while embedding security best practices aligned to federal cybersecurity frameworks.  
 
What You Will Be Doing: 
  • Design, implement, and maintain AWS infrastructure to support enterprise applications, data services, and integrations. 
  • Collaborate with data teams to optimize data storage, movement, and accessibility across AWS environments. 
  • Work with external groups to design, develop, test, and troubleshoot interfaces with an ERP system. 
  • Implement and monitor security best practices, identity and access management, and compliance with FedRAMP and DHS security policies. 
  • Lead integration efforts between cloud-based systems and on-premise environments, ensuring secure and seamless connectivity. 
  • Develop and implement archive strategies for structured and unstructured data that meet retention, compliance, and performance requirements. 
  • Monitor system health, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements to enhance performance, scalability, and cost efficiency. 
  • Work closely with developers, data engineers, security teams, and operations staff to ensure solutions are aligned with organizational goals. 

What We Need From You (Required):  

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with AWS cloud architecture and systems engineering 
  • Strong proficiency in configuring and maintaining AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, and APIs for secure data processing 
  • Experience with automated AWS resource provisioning and management using Infrastructure as Code (e.g., CloudFormation) 
  • Experience designing archive and retention strategies 
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving skills across systems and data pipelines 
  • Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences 
  • U.S. Citizenship required, DHS Suitability preferred or ability to obtain one 

Bonus Points (Desired):

  • Experience supporting DHS modernization or ERP efforts 
  • Experience working with financial, procurement, and asset management systems/data 
  • Familiarity with Informatica IICS, PowerCenter, and IDQ 
  • Familiarity with SAP S/4HANA 
  • AWS Solutions Architect Certifications: Professional or Specialty Certifications 
Work Setup:  
  • Hybrid – Remote. Occasional travel may be required.
Clearance & Education: 
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field  
Compensation: 
  • Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $90k - $105k.
