Enrollment Benefits Specialist Opportunity:
The Enrollment Benefits Specialist is responsible for inpatient and outpatient registration. They are responsible for verifying insurance information prior to a client’s appointments via the portals available at North Central Health Care and making sure the necessary signatures are collected from clients, guardians, and power of attorney representatives.
Compensation and Benefits:
- The pay range for this role is $19.16 - $20.86, based on experience.
- This role is full-time and in person. The typical work schedule is weekdays from 8:00am – 4:30pm.

- As a full-time employee of NCHC, you would be eligible for the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS). The WRS is a hybrid defined benefit plan. It contains elements of both a 401(k) or defined contribution plan and a defined benefit plan. Participating staff contribute 6.95% and NCHC will match this at 100% each pay period!
What Qualifies You:
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- More than one year of experience in customer service within healthcare or a related field
- Excellent customer service skills
- Valid Wisconsin driver's license and use of a personal vehicle
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
- Knowledge of insurance and billing practices
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree in Healthcare related field
- Experience with billing in a medical or business office setting
- Experience working with a diverse patient population, including severe and persistent mental illness and substance use disorders
- Ability to use independent judgment and decision-making skills
What an Enrollment Benefits Specialist does at NCHC:
- Interviews clients on initial appointment/walk-in. Collects data required for initial service request and to meet precertification and other third-party requirements.
- Contact third party for benefit verification; verifying information for precertification requirements in addition to any copayment amounts. Send out precertification packets if required.
- Contact out of county board representatives to request new authorizations or update ongoing authorizations.
- Upon new inpatient discharge, meet with client to discuss payment policies and procedures or mail inpatient discharge packet.
- Completes preadmission benefit verification as requested by admissions coordinator, including benefits, precertification requirements and copayment amounts.
- Upon inpatient admission, meet with client/responsible party to collect required admitting data.
- Review of daily outpatient appointments to verify accuracy of information in EMR; insurance information, authorization information, etc. Compare with outside eligibility systems, verify benefits and copayments for possible payments.
- Ensure data entry of information into EMR as applicable for home, all outpatient and inpatient programs. Includes demographic, encounters, financial and system update information.
- Maintain the Ability to Pay information. Communicate information to client, including letter to clients for updated information. Also responsible for periodic reviews.
- Verify registration information entered by other departments for completeness and accuracy, updates as needed, including adding to any subsequent system(s).
- Maintains regular and predictable on-site attendance.
