Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Forecasting Data Scientist to develop and maintain sophisticated forecasting models that drive critical business decisions. You will be responsible for predicting key business metrics including phone call volumes, unit sales, new customer acquisition, and other operational KPIs using our comprehensive historical dataset. This role requires a blend of advanced statistical expertise, machine learning proficiency, and strong business acumen.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Model Development & Analytics
- Design, build, and deploy forecasting models for multiple business metrics (call volumes, sales units, revenue, customer acquisition)
- Implement time series analysis using statistical methods (ARIMA, exponential smoothing, seasonal decomposition) and machine learning approaches
- Develop ensemble models that combine multiple forecasting techniques for optimal accuracy
- Perform feature engineering incorporating external factors such as marketing spend, seasonality, economic indicators, and promotional activities
- Continuously monitor model performance and implement improvements to maintain forecast accuracy
Data Management & Analysis
- Extract, clean, and prepare large datasets from multiple sources for forecasting analysis
- Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in historical data
- Validate data quality and implement processes to ensure forecasting model reliability
- Create automated data pipelines for model training and prediction generation
Business Partnership & Communication
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Sales, Marketing, Operations, Finance) to understand business drivers and forecasting requirements
- Present forecast results and insights to executive leadership and stakeholders
- Translate complex statistical concepts into actionable business recommendations
- Provide guidance on forecast uncertainty and confidence intervals to inform decision-making
Innovation & Best Practices
- Stay current with industry best practices and emerging forecasting methodologies
- Evaluate and implement new tools, techniques, and technologies to enhance forecasting capabilities
- Document model methodologies, assumptions, and performance metrics
- Mentor junior team members and share knowledge across the organization
Performance Metrics:
- Forecast Accuracy: Demonstrated, iterative improvements in predictive accuracy over time. Success is measured by provable results from validation tests using historical data, with clear documentation of error rates and progress toward more reliable forecasts.
- Timeliness & Reliability: Percentage of forecasts delivered on or before deadlines, scheduled and communicated on a predictable cadence. Forecasts should be generated through automated and reproducible processes without the need for manual manipulation.
Innovation & Collaboration: Regular evaluation of multiple forecasting approaches with clear comparisons of strengths and weaknesses. Success includes providing well-reasoned recommendations on the best approach for each business need, as well as communicating trade-offs and insights effectively across teams.
Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Economics, Operations Research, or related quantitative field
- 4+ years of hands-on experience in business forecasting, demand planning, or predictive analytics
- Proven track record of building and deploying forecasting models in production environments
Technical Skills
- Programming: Advanced proficiency in Python (pandas, scikit-learn, statsmodels, matplotlib) or R (forecast, tidyverse, ggplot2)
- Statistical Methods: Deep understanding of time series analysis, regression modeling, and statistical forecasting techniques
- Machine Learning: Experience with ensemble methods, neural networks, and advanced ML algorithms for forecasting
- Databases: Strong SQL skills for data extraction and manipulation
- Visualization: Proficiency in Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent visualization tools
- Version Control: Experience with Git and collaborative development practices
Business Skills
- Experience forecasting business metrics such as sales, demand, call volumes, or customer acquisition
- Understanding of business seasonality, promotional impacts, and external market factors
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple forecasting projects simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a quantitative field
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and MLOps practices
- Background in retail, e-commerce, telecommunications, or similar industries
- Experience with advanced forecasting techniques (Prophet, neural forecasting, hierarchical forecasting)
- Knowledge of optimization and supply chain planning
- Previous experience in a senior or lead data science role
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to remain at your designated workstation for the duration of the workday
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a phone and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).
- The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- The ability to observe details at close range (typically on a computer screen)
