The Role
Liberty Science Center is seeking a full-time Coordinator of Evening Programs to assist in the planning, promoting, and hosting of evening events. The Coordinator will have a heavy focus on supporting the LSC After Dark event series and cultivating new adult audiences.
This position reports to the Sr. Manager of Marketing Events.

What You’ll Do
Below is an overview of your essential functions. Please note this is not an exhaustive list, as new responsibilities can be added as business needs demand:
- Brainstorm event programming ideas
- Research vendors and help book entertainment
- Design promotional experiences and attend local community events to spread the word
- Help create social media content (writing, photography, or videography skills a plus!)
- Assist with staff and vendor coordination and supervision
- Help create and oversee promotional installations on-site at LSC
- Provide customer service during events
- Participate in post-event evaluation and reporting
- Help manage promotional partnerships and curate publicity clips
- Manage department finance tracking
- Manage event logistics as needed, such as setting up and breaking down events
- Collaborate on the coordination of evening events across LSC (like Members’ Nights, Community Evenings, or others that may be organized by other teams) as business needs demand
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

- Creative thinker
- Thrives collaborating with a team or working independently with minimal supervision
- Superior customer service skills, including the ability to manage challenging people and/or situations
- Digitally savvy (avid user of social media)
- Professional verbal and written communication skills
- Comfortable negotiating with vendors to secure nonprofit rates
- Organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills
- Detail-oriented; ability to manage multiple projects and to adjust priorities on a daily basis
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Reliable attendance is critical in this role
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate possesses a combination of the following education and/or equivalent experience:
- Experience supervising vendors and frontline teams
- Experience working in a hospitality or special event setting with a strong focus on logistics planning and customer service
Classification and Schedule
This is a regular full-time non-exempt position. This role is eligible for full benefits, subject to LSC’s benefits waiting period as of the date of hire. This on-site position will be a consistent member of the on-site LSC After Dark supervisory team and will be scheduled at least two Thursday nights per month. The ideal candidate must have open availability to work mornings and evenings, and holidays, as business needs or special events may require.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This role will supervise part-time event staff and external vendors.
Physical Demands
The duties of this position require the employee to work in a standard open office environment and throughout LSC’s public spaces with moderate noise levels, as well as in a loud nightclub-like environment and other event environments. This role is frequently required to receive oral and written instructions in English and to clearly communicate in English in person, over the telephone, and via texting and email.
In addition to sitting/standing at a laptop/desktop for long periods of time visually assessing information, the individual in this role will also be required to spend much time in our public spaces (walking on concrete floors, climbing stairs, putting up decor, etc.) and outdoors (walking on uneven ground, exposed to the elements). The ability to lift 50 pounds is required for this role as the Coordinator must be able to help set up and break down events.

Work Location
Liberty Science Center’s physical workplace is located in a beautiful state park in Jersey City, New Jersey, with easy access to free employee parking, the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, and the NJ Path train. LSC is a pleasant 15-minute commute from Lower Manhattan.
Travel
Occasional local travel will be required (up to 15%)
Compensation & Benefits
The anticipated salary range for this role is $43,000-$47,000; however, the final offer is commensurate based on skills, education, certifications, and experience.
