General Description
Inspections in elevator construction regarding electrical and mechanical installations.
Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Must be certified as an ANSI/ASME Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI).
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License at time of appointment, and must obtain and maintain the authority to drive on County business.
Preferences
- Florida Association of Code Enforcement Officers (FACE) Fundamentals in Code Enforcement certification
- Fire Safety Inspector
- Ability to speak/read/write multiple languages other than English (Spanish/Portuguese/Creole, etc.).
Position Duties
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
This position is responsible for performing inspections in elevator construction regarding electrical and mechanical installations.
Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Conducts inspections for compliance with codes and regulations governing the construction, alteration, repair and continued operation of new and existing elevators, escalators and lifts.
Observes during stages in construction for possible defects and violations that must be corrected.
Reviews code standards and departmental regulations; reviews and checks blueprints, plans, and sketches associated with a permit in relation to the actual construction, alteration, or repair and recommends changes and improvements when needed.
Confers with contractors, engineers, property owners, and other interested parties; explains and interprets elevator codes and regulations.
Prepares and maintains necessary records and reports; attends meetings and conferences concerned with elevating device code enforcement.
Enforces provisions of the Florida Statute 399 and related regulations.
Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Physical Demands

Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
