NORTH SMITHFIELD SCHOOL DEPARTMENT JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE:MULTI-LINGUAL LANGUAGE TEACHER REPORTS TO:Director of Pupil Personnel Services TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Salary and other conditions to be set by superintendent according to any relevant School Committee policy contractual agreement. JOB GOAL: Provide language acquisition services and promote the district's cultural competency; coordinate English as a Second Language program and services. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Certification as ESL teacher in elementary education (Preferred to hold both elementary and secondary certification)
  2. Experience as a classroom teacher in elementary schools
  3. Masters Degree in ESL education preferred

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Plan, develop, and coordinate the delivery of instructional services to students who are English language learners in grades PK-4.
  2. Oversee, develop, and coordinate activities that provide support for ELL/MLL learners.
  3. Participate in the Consolidated Grant Application process & represent the district as part of the Northern Rhode Island Consortium.
  4. Assist in developing and implementing procedures and guidelines for ELL/MLL student screening, eligibility, and service delivery.
  5. Coordinate testing of students for ELL/MLL eligibility, progress and exit process as well as annual ACCESS state testing.
  6. Coordinate training of personnel for ACCESS testing and use of WIDA-W-APT Screener
  7. Assist with the design/implement of transition services.
  8. Evaluate effectiveness of curriculum, materials, and supplies for the ELL/MLL program.
  9. Coordinate and manage the Student Information System requirements for ELL/MLL students, as well as state census and reporting requirements.
  10. Assume responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports and records legally required or administratively useful (Desk Audit, AMAO, Action Plans, Program Description, etc.).
  11. Serve as a resource and advocate to administrators, teachers, students, and parents.
  12. Plan and implement, if needed, related in-service training & technical assistance and support for appropriate school personnel.
  13. Disseminate state and/or WIDA ELL/MLL standards to all teachers of ELL/MLLs.
  14. Meet with administrators, district testing coordinator regarding RICAS regulations for ELL/MLL students.
  15. Attend and advise on best practices for ELL/MLLs at Evaluation Team & RTI Team MTSS and/or ET meetings as needed.
  16. Act as the district liaison with the R.I. Department of Education.
  17. Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the designee of the Building Principal, Director of Pupil Personnel Services, or Superintendent.
