SUMMARY

This position is responsible for maintaining the grounds and external appearance of the casino by performing semi-skilled and skilled functions so that Grand Traverse Resort & Casinos maintains its image as a fun-filled, clean friendly venue.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Maintain the appearance of the grounds by the following: picking up trash, mowing the lawn, raking leaves, pulling weeds, planting flower and trees, prune shrubs and trees as necessary, operate heavy landscaping equipment. 
  • Handling and application of fertilizers and pesticides. 
  • Performs maintenance and upkeep of all parking and sidewalk areas.  
  • Maintain the exterior of the building:  wash windows, skylights, water walls.
  • All aspects of snow removal:  shovel, plow, de-ice sidewalks and building exits, operate heavy snow removal equipment. 
  • Install/remove outdoor signs, parking and traffic control barriers and overhead banners as required. 
  • Assist Grounds Supervisor in guiding, coaching, training and developing the technical and skills of Grounds Crew 1 staff.
  • Assist in the coordination and completion of department projects:  daily, weekly, monthly.  
  • Helps to create standards of cleanliness to which grounds employees need to adhere.
  • Report any maintenance/safety problems immediately.
  • Must be able to complete assigned duties with limited supervision. 
  • Willingness to cross-train and provide support in related areas of operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

OTHER NECESSARY SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must have excellent customer service and communication skills both verbal and written. Must be a team player with a positive attitude. Must be highly organized and able to handle multiple tasks at one time. Must be able to complete tasks and projects in a timely manner by prioritizing obligations and time. Must possess the ability to work with various personalities while maintaining impartiality. Must respond to supervisory guidance and assignments and accept constructive criticisms in order to learn new, updated information. The needs for quickness and ease of adjustment to the work environment and flexibility to change are essential in this position. Must be able to follow directions and have a strong work ethic. Must also possess the basic knowledge of power and hand tools. Must be able to assist customers in different areas, if necessary. Be able to work independently and to complete projects in a timely matter. 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

None

 

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Must be at least 18 years of age with experience using various hand/power tools and heavy equipment. A minimum of 1-year lawn care and maintenance or landscape industry is required.

 

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS

Must have a valid Driver’s License and be insurable by the Tribal insurance carrier.

 

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED

Basic hand tools, power tools, rake, lawn mowers, hoes, gardening equipment, ladders, shovels, golf carts, tractors, snow blowers, snow plow, front-end loaders, dump trucks, flat-bed trucks and other yard/large equipment as needed. Proper endorsements for operating all heavy equipment will be required.

 

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

May be required to lift up to 75 lbs. and be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.  May also be required to reach, bend, stretch, kneel, crawl, lift and carry on occasion. 

 

TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS

Must be able to effectively handle stressful and compromising situations while remaining focused and professional. Must be able to deal with difficult people without losing perspective. Must be able to work productively under strict time restraints with variable deadlines. Must be able to handle making quick, informed decisions while under high stressful situations.  

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able to handle being under constant surveillance. Must practice all safety policies, procedures and standards as set by OSHA. Work in all different climates, spring, summer, winter and fall, which includes rain, sleet, hail, snow, extreme heat and other weather conditions. Must be able to dress according to the weather but within uniform code standards as set by the Manager.

 

COMMENTS

Native American and Tribal Preference will apply. Must be able to pass a background investigation and a drug and alcohol urinalysis as a condition of employment. Must be able to work flexible hours and to take on additional responsibilities when asked. Must adhere to company policies regarding strict confidentiality.
