Job Summary
The Sanitation Manager (3rd Shift) is responsible for coordinating, leading, and overseeing all plant sanitation operations to ensure food safety, product quality, and regulatory compliance. This role manages sanitation personnel, procedures, and practices, ensuring strict adherence to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), FDA/USDA requirements, and company food safety programs.
The Sanitation Manager ensures all production equipment and facilities are properly cleaned, sanitized, and maintained to support safe, high-quality food production. This role also drives continuous improvement in sanitation programs and provides leadership, training, and performance management for the sanitation team.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and manage the 3rd shift sanitation team, ensuring cleaning and sanitation activities meet food safety and quality standards.
- Lead the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) and Master Sanitation Schedules (MSS).
- Conduct sanitation audits, risk assessments, and microbial monitoring; implement corrective actions and verify completion.
- Oversee and enhance the Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP) and lead resolution of microbial events.
- Maintain strict compliance with cGMPs, HACCP, FDA/USDA, SQF, and other applicable food safety regulations.
- Manage chemical usage, cleaning supplies, sanitation tools, and consumable inventory through CMMS.
- Train, coach, and develop sanitation staff to ensure compliance, safety, and job proficiency.
- Prepare and manage the sanitation department’s annual budget.
- Lead cross-functional meetings related to sanitation, food safety, and quality.
- Support regulatory and third-party audits; compile reports on inspections, violations, and corrective actions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce risk, and elevate sanitation practices.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements
We believe a successful sanitation manager will have the following qualifications:
Education / Certificates / Licenses / Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Food Science, or related field required; equivalent experience in lieu of education will be accepted.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in food manufacturing and sanitation.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience supervising sanitation employees/programs.
- Clean-In-Place (CIP) or Clean-Out-of-Place (COP) experience strongly preferred.
- Third shift experience strongly preferred.
- Workplace safety and HAZMAT/chemical safety training and experience required, including PPE and LOTO.
- Experience in corrective actions, root cause analysis, cGMPs, and audit readiness required.
- HACCP Certification required within 12 months of hire.
- Strong understanding of quality assurance principles and control measures in FDA/USDA regulated industries.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience that demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered on an individual basis.

This position is located in a production/processing environment, which may involve:
- Cold temperatures ranging from 45°F with occasional exposure to freezer environments as low as -10°F
- Exposure to manufacturing equipment and machinery
- Standing and working on concrete floors for extended periods
- Fast-paced, physically demanding tasks in a team-oriented setting
- Adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and safety protocols
