Job Summary
 
The Fiber Technician Trainer is responsible for developing and delivering the Technician training program to new and existing FTTH Technicians through high-quality, hands-on training sessions ensuring they have the knowledge and skills to install, troubleshoot, and maintain various systems and equipment. This includes fiber optic cables and equipment installation, termination testing of low voltage/network cables and fiber optic cables and troubleshooting. This role involves creating training materials, conducting classes, and assessing trainee performance. This position plays a key role in equipping industry professionals with the skills and knowledge needed to install fiber lines and equipment safely, efficiently, and effectively, while promoting customer satisfaction.
  
Responsibilities: 
  
  • Facilitate in-person training sessions, workshops, and hands-on exercises at client locations, and training centers to teach FTTH installation principles and techniques, including site assessment, system design, troubleshooting, and safety protocols.
  • Create thorough and accurate instructional materials and guides, with occasional support for video content development.
  • Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area and in accordance with BTS policies and guidelines
  • Deliver tailored product training to technicians, ensuring proper installation, use, and
  • understanding of fiber optic products.
  • Instruct fundamental principles of fiber optic technology, including installation, cable termination, splicing and fusing, and using the testing equipment to troubleshoot transmission issues.
  • Teach hands-on lands working with industry-recognized equipment such as a mini excavator, bucket truck, etc.
  • Ensure all training equipment and materials are maintained, transported, and set up effectively to support successful training outcomes.
  • Emphasize and enforce fundamental safety protocols and OSHA rules throughout all training programs, prioritizing participant safety and regulatory compliance and perform hands-on labs working with fiber optic cables and equipment such as a fusion splice.
  • Assist new technicians in developing the fundamental skills required to serve as an entry-level fiber optic cable installer or technician.
  • Provide demonstrations on various equipment and machinery; develop assignments to provide hands-on experience as appropriate
  • Oversee and participate in field studies and assignments; travel with technicians to provide assistance and instruction as appropriate
  • Provide post-training support, guidance, and technical assistance to installer teams to ensure successful implementation.
  • Maintain accurate records of technicians’ attendance and performance
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with industry partners, installer networks, and stakeholders to promote the training program and enhance product adoption.
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements and
  • training methodologies.
  • Travel up to 75% of the time to deliver training sessions, including overnight travel.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned  
 
Qualifications: All positions require participation in the federally compliant FMSCA drug and alcohol testing program. This includes both pre-employment and ongoing random testing. 
  
  • Fiber optic experience preferred. 
  • Experience in developing and delivering technical training programs, preferably in a similar industry.  
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to a varied audience.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking skills 
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple training events, schedules, and logistical demands.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.  
  • Ability to present information clearly and engagingly to groups of varying sizes.  
  • Ability to manage training schedules, materials, and trainee performance data effectively.  
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment during all times of the year. 
  • Ability to lift and operate necessary materials to include small hand tools, power tools, and test equipment. 
  • Ability to travel and work extended hours; overtime and weekends as needed. 
  • Valid driver's license with a minimum of 2 years driving experience. 
  • Authorized to work in the United States
