Hypebae is seeking a New York–based Associate Editor to join our dynamic editorial team. The ideal candidate will combine sharp editorial instincts with a deep passion for sports, footwear, and their intersections with culture and fashion. This individual should be highly attuned to the online landscape (“chronically online” in the best possible way) able to both anticipate and respond to cultural conversations in real time.
This role is best suited for a creative storyteller who can craft compelling narratives that engage, inspire and resonate with a Gen Z audience. At Hypebae, we are dedicated to celebrating contemporary culture in a way that is inclusive, uplifting and forward-thinking, while providing a safe and collaborative space for our community to connect, share and explore.
The expected annual base salary range for this role is between $45,000 to $50,000. The salary range is subject to change and may be amended in the future. Experience, education, relevant skill set, location and other factors are considered when determining the salary offered.
Responsibilities:
Write and publish daily articles across multiple verticals and platforms, ensuring alignment with Hypebae’s editorial voice and brand direction.
Collaborate with the social team to adapt and optimize editorial content for digital channels, including the creation of supporting and original assets.
Work with editorial leadership to conceptualize, plan and execute SEO-driven features and long-form storytelling around key tentpole moments, including moments in the cultural calendar as well as major sporting events around the world.
Contribute to established franchise content formats while also pitching fresh editorial ideas and approaches.
Work with the wider editorial team to ensure editorial excellence and brand consistency.
Liaise with external contacts, PR and brands included, to secure exclusive opportunities and stories.
Represent the Hypebae brand on occasion at industry events, press junkets and PR meetings.
Requirements:
2+ years of experience in journalism, digital media or a related field.
Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills, with a keen eye for detail and social-first syndication.
Familiarity with SEO best practices and audience engagement strategies.
Proficiency with digital tools; Photopea, Canva and video skills (CapCut) are strongly preferred.
Deep knowledge of Hypebae’s content and tone, both on a local and international level.
Highly organized, self-driven and adaptable: able to juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated creativity and innovative thinking, with the ability to spot emerging trends early.
Keen cultural sensitivity and ability to write with and for a diverse audience.
Strong collaborative spirit, with proven ability to work effectively.
Passion for Hypebae’s mission and community, with a personal interest in sports, footwear, fashion and cultural trends.
