- Conducts housekeeping duties according to schedule and /or as needed such as cleaning rooms, cleaning restrooms, replenishing soap and paper supplies in restrooms and classrooms, cleaning water fountains, mopping and waxing halls, sweeping and vacuuming floors and walkways, washing windows and blinds in assigned classrooms, dusting, cleaning stair cases, cleaning assigned cafeteria areas and teachers’ lounges, etc.
- Completes district-wide asbestos awareness training as required and participates in local facility asbestos awareness activities.
- Empties garbage and trash containers on a regular basis and keeps containers clean and sanitary.
- Performs light yard work and assists with maintenance of the building and grounds as needed; performs outside cleaning such as sweeping walkways, picking up trash, etc.
- Knows locations of all electrical, gas and water cut-off locations in assigned areas.
- Assists with preparing classrooms for closing and with closing of the buildings as directed.
- Utilizes effective energy practices such as cutting off lights in unoccupied spaces on a daily basis.
- Posts warnings/signs when persons should be notified of wet floors, wet paint, off-limits, etc.
- Operates housekeeping equipment and tools such as vacuum cleaners, mops, brooms, hand tools, cleaning tools, buffers, etc.
- Mixes and applies properly all chemicals and agents needed to perform housekeeping duties.
- Utilizes protective equipment as required.
- Attends SDS (Safety Data Sheets) and chemical use safety training.
- Wears required safety goggles, gloves, non-slip shoes and other protective equipment as needed based on the nature of assigned tasks.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during the school year. Conditions of employment are adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under general supervision of the head custodian and asst. custodian, is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of assigned schools and facilities. Conducts a wide variety of housekeeping duties.

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Lexington County School District One Board policies. Must be able to access reliable transportation.

Knowledge of school policies, procedures, and operations. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation, and utilization of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to anticipate work to be completed and to complete work without the need for direct supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, co-workers, teachers, students, and the general public.
