The Team

The Lower School Team works collaboratively to teach foundational literacies and build hands-on inquiry/project-based experiences for students. Each grade-level team is led by a Head of Grade and works with a Learning Coach to meet the needs of each individual student. Leveraging tools and resources such as visible thinking routines, off-campus expeditions, mindfulness/SEL, internal/external experts, and a team of connectors (Maker, Performing Arts, Physical Educator, Science, Spanish, Visual Arts) the Lower School team is able to activate agency and imagination for our learners who are ready to make an impact today.


The Role

Mount Vernon is seeking a long-term Spanish substitute to inspire curiosity, cultural appreciation, and a love of language in elementary-aged students. This is a unique opportunity to shape global mindsets through creative, engaging instruction and help young learners develop as confident communicators.


Responsibilities

  • Provide meaningful instruction in Grades 1-5 Spanish using a variety of teaching methods
  • Collaborate with faculty across disciplines to facilitate interdisciplinary learning experiences
  • Possess strong character, a team-oriented spirit, and a commitment to meeting the learning and social-emotional needs of students
  • Maintaining digital records of student performance, progress, and goals using MV tools
  • Actively participating in professional growth opportunities and meetings
  • Meeting the needs of the division by helping with weekly coverage and duties
  • Support the school community by assisting with daily operational duties such as carpool, lunch supervision, and other assigned responsibilities

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Spanish, or a related field (preferred)
  • Teaching Certificate (preferred)
  • Classroom experience (preferred)
