Hiring Range: $66,705 - $80,046    
Hours:  8:00am – 5:00pm, Monday - Friday

This position is devoted to professional urban planning services for the City and County including land use planning, zoning and annexation review, data and policy analysis, and administrative duties. The primary responsibilities for this position will be the review of zoning and annexation applications, performing professional analyses and providing technical assistance to applicants and the public, and writing and presenting reports to appointed and elected officials. Other duties will include support for data analysis and long-range planning projects as well as administrative duties regarding notification procedures, intake for applications, and closeout of completed cases. A minimum of two years of experience in planning is required.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical assistance and information to customers; attending meetings and serving as a representative of the City and/or County; facilitating meetings of citizen groups and stakeholders and/or providing staff support; researching and compiling information and producing maps, conducting site investigations, graphic and narrative reports; reviewing development proposals for compliance; and coordinating with regional planning organizations and federal/state agencies.

Position Duties

  • Performs professional planning duties to include conducting analyses, making recommendations on planning and development issues, conducting research studies, coordinating development review processes, and conducting case reviews.
  • Prepares, maintains, reviews, and/or approves graphic, narrative, and other reports, development proposals, plans, maps, and other documents; approves and issues certifications; prepares and makes presentations; maintains records and databases; researches and analyzes information; develops and makes recommendations; and ensures compliance with applicable ordinances, codes, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinates with customers, regional planning organizations, and federal or state agencies, or City and/or County departments; attends community forums; participates, conducts, or leads meetings; provides technical assistance; represents the City’s policies and procedures to developers and other interested parties; and responds to inquiries.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
  • Reviewing maps and graphical/statistical information.
  • Researching, preparing, and presenting graphic, statistical, and narrative reports.
  • Presenting planning concepts to the public and elected and appointed bodies.
  • Participating in and facilitating community forums, task forces, and committees.
  • Administrative duties, including but not limited to:
    • Posting of signs and maintenance of sign database.
    • Closing out of completed cases.
    • Handling intake and distribution of case materials.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, landscape architecture, geography, architecture, engineering, forestry, horticulture, arboriculture, landscape architecture, or urban forestry or a directly related field or equivalent experience.
  • Two years of professional planning or related experience.

Other Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in planning, engineering, or a directly related field is preferred.
