About the Department
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Renew provides individual and/or group treatment services to persistently mentally ill individuals and individuals with emotional, behavioral and other mental disorders, to enhance independent choice, satisfaction and optimum participation in the community, family, and employment or education environments. This position will be required to work various hours/days of the week and will include on-call hours and is expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week. The schedule for this position will be set by the Clinical Manager – Crisis Services or designated manager and may be changed as Agency/department needs change. This position is represented by the Teamsters Local Union #760. All employees hired into this position are required to become and remain members in good standing of the Union within 30 days of beginning employment.
Position Duties
- Coordinate with Supervisor, DCRs, and other agency staff to provide hospital diversion and crisis intervention services to individuals referred to the Intensive Hospital Diversion (IHD) program.
- Hospital diversion and crisis stabilization services to provide include but are not limited to:
- Daily contact with individuals
- Sitting with individuals
- Assuring increased and intensive case management services are provided by the primary clinician
- Arranging for emergency medications when prescribed
- Providing or arranging transportation to services
- Assisting with arrangements for other services or resources as appropriate
- Assess each individual’s acute treatment needs and provide appropriate treatment, assuring coordination of all services with primary DCR, medical staff, natural supports and other involved treatment staff. Services may occur in individual’s home, nursing facility, transitional house or motel or other identified place.
- Identify a team of persons serving the individual and coordinate a plan for services. Keep identified team informed of important treatment information and changes in conditions and treatment strategies.
- Make referrals to appropriate community resources that are not available within the Agency and are basic to the needs of the individual; and coordinate services between other agencies.
- Support services to provide include but are not limited to:
- Transportation to shopping, banking, doctor appointments, errands
- Moving individuals into new residences
- Assisting with Activities of Daily Living as assigned
- Assuring food is provided
- Actively seek supervision and consultation from supervisor and other professional staff to assure the individual is safe and receiving appropriate care.
- Meet and maintain competency level for service coding, billing requirements, and note documentation for billing varying insurances and DSHS.
- Documents accurately in client records within established Agency timelines.
- Complete and maintain appropriate records which meet Washington Administrative Code (WAC), Revised Code of Washington (RCW), Regional Support Network, Agency documentation, quantitative and peer review and regular supervision standards, in the required timelines.
- Provide services that are compatible with the particular culture and primary language of the individual and which support the individual’s rights.
- Actively participates in training and other meetings, whether in or out of office, as requested.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work or other behavioral health related field;
- Related experience and/or training;
- Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate response to aggressive behaviors with least restrictive interventions;
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License: Must have a safe reliable vehicle with proof of automobile insurance;
- Background Checks: Must have acceptable background reports, at time of hire and every three years afterward;
- Driving Abstract: Must have an acceptable driving report; and
- Washington State Registered Agency Affiliated Counselor Credential; Licensure preferred. Must maintain an active credential with the State of Washington.
- Three years of related experience and/or training
- Demonstrated high level of competency in dealing with mental health emergencies
- Bilingual/Bicultural skills
- Understanding of medical and clinical terminology
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Knowledge of County and Agency policies and procedures
Other Qualifications
Working Conditions:
- Work is primarily performed inside, but can be performed in varying temperatures.
- Work settings may include any of the Renew offices, schools, jails, client’s homes, or community locations.
- Employee may be exposed to odors or vapors in the office or other work settings.
- Work may be performed in other environments where the employee may be exposed to sub-sanitary environments, pets, and passive smoking.
- Daily exposure to potential verbal and physical aggression with risk of personal safety issues.
- Work duties may require the operation of vehicles, which involves risks associated with driving including road traffic conditions and inclement weather.
- Work duties may require employee to transport client in vehicles.
