TITLE: 1st GRADE LONG-SUBSTITUTE TEACHER (Tentatively 8/25/2025-10/31/2025)

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

  • Work with individuals, small groups, or the entire class to support teaching of content.
  • Report to the school office at the beginning of the school day to pick up required materials/schedule of classes and at the end of the day to return materials and discuss the next day’s assignment.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units, or projects assigned.
  • Take attendance according to provided procedures.
  • Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
  • Ensure the safety and supervision of students at all times, to include awareness of emergency procedures.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the principal.

SUBSTITUTE TEACHER TRAINING

 

All substitute teachers must attend a training session before they can begin accepting assignments for Yukon Public Schools.  All substitute teacher training will be held at the Yukon Public Schools Administration Building, 600 Maple.  You will find information pertaining to the Workshops (dates/times) at: yukonps.com Substitute Teacher Information

 

SUBSTITUTE TEACHER REQUIREMENTS:

  1. 21 years of age; 18-20 may apply for consideration to substitute teach at the PK-6 level.
  2. Two original forms of ID for work authorization - use this link for a list of acceptable documents:  https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-9.pdf (bring documents or copies of documents to Workshop if new to YPS this year)
  3. FERPA, Bloodborne Pathogen, and Title IX Training (conducted at training)
  4. Background check form available at Workshop (National Criminal History Record Check) and fingerprints taken for a fee of $58.25 (if you did not work for YPS last year) 

Applicants may not begin accepting assignments until all of the above documents have been completed and verified.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Meets and instructs assigned classes at designated time unless appropriate Principal/Personnel has been notified.
  2. Prepares for assigned classes and provides written evidence of preparation that reflect objectives to be achieved.
  3. Creates an effective classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students within the limits of the resources of the district.
  4. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with these goals.  Establishes clear objectives and communicates these objectives to students.
  5. Discerns students' needs, and refers, when appropriate, to school personnel who can best help with their problems.
  6. Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning academic and behavioral progress of assigned students.
  7. Plans curriculum in cooperation with administration that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  8. Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment and facilities.
  9. Assists administration in developing/implementing policies, rules and regulations.
  10. Attends and participates in faculty and professional activities.
  11. Completes reports and other school related paperwork within time and date requested.
  12. Accepts the responsibility and arrives punctually for activities and duties as assigned.
  13. Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with co-workers.
  14. Upgrades professional growth through one or more of the following:
    1. Professional training courses
    2. Workshops
    3. Seminars
    4. Conferences
    5. College classes
    6. Other professional activities
  15. Maintains appropriate emotional control, physical health and personal appearance.
  16. Performs such other tasks and assumes other tasks and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal and/or Superintendent.

PAY: 

  • Certified substitute teachers
    • $100 per day for the first 20 days
    • $200 per day starting day 21 in same position.
  • Non-certified substitute teachers
    • $85 per day for first 20 days
    • $100 per day starting day 21 in same position.
