Position Description
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will function within the Covenant Children’s Hospital and University Medical Center pediatric inpatient units, delivering comprehensive, family-centered care to pediatric patients with hematologic and oncologic conditions in a multidisciplinary inpatient setting. As a key member of the cancer center’s collaborative care team, the APP will provide expert patient-centered management and compassionate support to children and their families navigating complex medical journeys. Provides primary care as part of a health care team in an ambulatory setting in a particular discipline. Provides patient education and counseling as well as physical assessment. May participate in teaching programs for students and other student residents. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions and requires a high degree of contact with patients, families, and other clinic personnel and outside professionals. Some positions in the classification require travel to outreach clinics and home visits, and participation in educational efforts and special programs that occur outside of normal working hours.

Major/Essential Functions
• Provide direct clinical care to pediatric hematology and oncology patients within the Covenant Children’s Hospital and University Medical Center pediatric inpatient units.
• Manage inpatient admissions, consults, and discharge. Develop individualized care plans, and ensure continuity and safety throughout treatment.
• Coordinate and monitor inpatient infusion services; remain available for consults at both hospitals.
• Ensure patients' charts are kept up-to-date and timely following policy requirements.
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment options, medication side effects, and care plans.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and allied health professionals to deliver holistic, team-based care.
• Document all clinical encounters promptly and accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Actively participate in care team meetings, continuing education, and quality improvement efforts.
• Demonstrate strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Thrive in an inpatient setting with rotating coverage at two affiliated hospitals, working both independently and collaboratively.
• Assist and/or perform spinal taps, intrathecal chemotherapy, and bone marrow sampling. Proper training and continuous oversight will be provided.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with chemotherapy and supportive care protocols.
- Familiarity with EPIC or similar EMR systems.
- At least 2 years of experience in pediatrics, hematology, or oncology.
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
- Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification.
