Full-Time | Licensed Required | Surgical Orthopedics – Spine (Neck and Back) Focus

 

OrthoVirginia, Virginia's largest provider of expert orthopedic and therapy care, is currently seeking a full-time, licensed Physician Assistant (PA) to join our team. This is a surgical role working directly with a Total Joint Provider, offering exposure to a high-volume orthopedic environment and the opportunity to develop advanced skills in joint replacement procedures. Summary:
Provides direct patient care and surgical assistance according to state guidelines and under the direction of the supervising physician and/or Medical Director. This surgical role includes assisting in total joint procedures and supporting preoperative and postoperative patient management. Functions within specific privileges as approved by the governing body and collaborates with the care team to ensure continuity and high-quality care.

 

Primary Functions & Accountabilities

  • Performs physical examinations, compiles medical data, and documents medical history
  • Implements treatment plans for new and established patients
  • Orders diagnostic studies when appropriate
  • Instructs patients and families regarding medications and treatment plans
  • Consults with supervising physician as needed to assess patient condition and care
  • Ensures timely completion of medical charts and administrative documentation
  • Monitors patient recovery and ensures continuity between physician visits
  • Provides follow-up care in accordance with clinical guidelines
  • Conducts preoperative assessments and confirms completion of required documentation
  • Evaluates patient status against emotional, physical, and social admission criteria
  • Notifies Medical Director or attending physician when outpatient treatment criteria are not met
  • Verifies completion of medical clearance and diagnostic tests
  • Educates patients and families about the perioperative process and responsibilities
  • May coordinate aspects of the surgical schedule based on patient needs
  • Operates within privileges delegated by the Medical Director and governing body
  • Documents orders and surgical considerations as outlined by the physician
  • Administers medications and monitors patients per facility protocols
  • Supports medical and office staff in clinical operations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to independently assess and escalate patient situations as needed
  • Effective response to emergency situations and clinical drills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to follow protocols with minimal supervision
  • Maintains professional demeanor in all aspects of patient care
  • May participate in hospital rounds as needed
  • Assists with completion of patient-related documentation
  • Willingness to travel between clinical settings as required
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills

Job Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • Active BLS Certification
  • Maintenance of continuing education units per licensure requirements
  • Prefer 2 years of experience; orthopedic and surgical experience strongly desired
  • New graduates with strong interest in total joint procedures are encouraged to apply
