Nasson Health Care is a Federally Qualified Health Center with clinical sites in Springvale and Biddeford, Maine. We serve York County and neighboring communities through provision of fully integrated medical, dental and behavioral health care.
Medical Assistant Apprentice
20 hours/week; 9 Month Program in collaboration with York County Community College
(Must be currently enrolled or in the process of enrolling with YCCC’s MA Certification Course)
The Medical Assistant Apprentice works collaboratively with a team of health professionals to provide comprehensive primary care to all patients while utilizing the Patient-Centered Medical Home model of care delivery. Under supervision the Medical Assistant Apprentice:
- Collaborates with other members of the practice team to prepare for patients’ office visits and assure that all indicated services are planned and delivered.
- Actively engages in ongoing provider panel management activities; routinely scans patient records for gaps in care and takes steps to assure that appointments are scheduled and all indicated services are delivered.
- Carries out new patient orientation session and prepares patients for provider visits.
- Assists with examinations, procedures and treatments.
- Performs in-office diagnostics, treatments according to practice guidelines and a variety of routine blood drawing procedures.
- Processes lab specimens.
- Prepares and administers medications and immunizations.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent required.
- Capable of applying critical thinking skills in performing patient assessment and care.
- Demonstrated proficiency in using the electronic medical record and practice management systems.
- Ability to work as part of a team that supports integration of medical, behavioral health and dental care.
- Willingness to work some non-traditional hours, e.g. evenings and weekends, and coordinate time off with other program staff.
- Demonstrates respect for diversity in serving patients and families.
- Must show proof of immunity or have been immunized for MMR, Hep B, Influenza (required annually) and the COVID primary series.
- Must not have an active record on the System for Award Management (SAM) website.
