The Addictionologist practices Addiction Psychiatry or Addiction Medicine and diagnoses, treats, and manages patients with substance use disorders by providing ongoing medical care and support to facilitate recovery. This role requires close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, delivering comprehensive care to patients, including medication management, counseling, and crisis intervention when necessary.The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrates clinical competency including adherence to best practices and ability to meet patients where they are to move them toward wellness and sustained recovery.
- Assists patients in identifying and pursuing effective treatment goals that align with their personal recovery journey.
- Maintains professional growth with evidence-based standards and maintain professional conduct at all times with patients, their families, community members and employees and staff of St. Luke’s and other institutions.
- Provides clinical services to patients including but not limited to evaluations, rendering diagnoses, and providing treatment and monitoring to patients
- Addresses mental health comorbidities as appropriate and partner with other mental health professionals when needed.
- Provides clinical services as required and requested in coordination with clinical and non-clinical leadership.
- Demonstrates/models the Network’s PCRAFT values during interactions with all customers.
- Participates in the oversight of patient health, safety, and welfare within St. Luke’s Penn Foundation (“SLPF”) Behavioral Health’s treatment programs, contributing to high standards of care.
- Maintains up-to-date documentation and compliance with professional standards, policies and procedures within the network and department.
- Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.
- Maintains confidentiality of all materials overseen within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information.
- Abides by federal, state, and local regulations and laws.
- Develops and maintains effective relationships with community agencies, case managers, primary care providers, specialists, psychiatrists, clinical researchers, drug and alcohol treatment centers, and other members of the clinical team and community.
- Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.
- Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes, and practices.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting for up to three (3) hours per day; three (3) hours a t a time. Standing for up to eight (8) hours per day; eight (8) hours at a time. Walking for up to six (6) hours per day; one (1) hour at a time. Frequent fingering, handling, grasping, twisting, and turning as it relates to therapeutic procedures. Consistently lift, carry, and push objects up to 10 pounds. Occasionally lift, carry, and push objects up to 75 pounds. Rarely lifting with assistance, up to 100 pounds. Rarely pushing and pulling patients weighing up to 300 pounds in a wheel chair or stretcher. Occasionally stooping and bending. Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch. Seeing as it relates to normal near, far, color, and peripheral vision. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation and high and low frequencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
- Graduate of an accredited school of medicine, required.
- Licensed to practice in the State of Pennsylvania with full prescription privileges, including a valid DEA license to prescribe controlled substances.
- Certification by the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM) or American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) – Addiction Psychiatry, or actively working toward certification.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in diagnosing and treating addiction and substance use disorders, with a solid understanding of co-occurring mental health conditions.
- Familiarity with current addiction medicine practices, evidence-based treatments, and the integration of mental health care into addiction treatment plans.
- Knowledge with use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
