We’re partnering with a leading Lloyd’s Managing Agent to appoint a Financial Crime Sanctions Analyst to join their compliance function. This is a high-impact role and will take a lead role in a critical project to revamp the organisation's sanctions screening process through the implementation of a new screening tool.
This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and driven individual with a solid technical foundation, exceptional communication skills, and the confidence to lead conversations across the market. We're looking for someone eager to build their career within a dynamic and evolving compliance landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct a comprehensive review of the existing sanctions screening process to assess its effectiveness, accuracy, and alignment with regulatory expectations and industry best practices.
- Identify and recommend enhancements to screening controls, methodologies, and tool configurations to strengthen sanctions risk mitigation.
- Support the implementation of improvements or potential technology changes, including engagement with stakeholders and vendors to ensure solutions are practical and fit for purpose.
- Collaborate with the wider compliance team to ensure the sanctions framework remains robust, responsive to regulatory changes, and aligned with Lloyd’s market expectations.
- Provide sanctions advisory support, including the assessment of high-risk and complex referrals, applying expert judgment to determine appropriate action in line with applicable sanctions regimes (e.g., OFAC, UK, EU, UN).
- Review policy documentation and transactional materials to identify potential sanctions exposure and articulate clear, risk-based recommendations.
- Stay current with evolving global sanctions regulations (e.g., relating to Russia, Iran, Cuba, Sudan) and communicate relevant developments to stakeholders in a clear and actionable manner.
- Act as a trusted advisor to business teams by translating complex sanctions rules into practical guidance.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a Lloyd’s Managing Agent, Syndicate, or broking environment is preferred, although strong candidates with company market insurance experience will also be considered.
- Strong working knowledge of international sanctions regimes and their practical application within the Lloyd’s and company markets.
- Proven experience reviewing sanctions referrals and providing expert advisory to underwriters or legal/compliance teams, demonstrating a self-starter mentality.
- A legal or law background is highly desirable, as critical to this role is the ability to review legislation, understand its impact on underwriting risk, and distil complex legal concepts into clear business guidance.
