Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (Full Time)

$1,000 Sign on Bonus 

The Association for Individual Development (AID) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower people with physical, developmental, intellectual, mental health challenges; those who have suffered a trauma; and those at risk, to enjoy lives of dignity and purpose.  We are looking for a Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (Full Time) who demonstrates this mission and wants to work for an organization that makes a difference in the community. 

What you will be doing? 

  • Responsible for the provision of nursing service, to meet the identified health care needs of a designated population of clients.
  • Responsibilities include assessing the health needs of clients, planning for the provision of needed health services, implementing a plan of care, and evaluating outcomes and ongoing health needs in collaboration with the client and other members of the health care team, as needed.
  • Assist with coverage for psychiatric clinics as needed. The Registered Nurse works within the framework of AID’s goals, policies, and procedures to assure that accreditation standards and regulatory requirements, pertaining to health care, are met in all programs. 

Essential Job Responsibilities:Medication Management: 

  • Completes quality compliance audits, on at least a monthly basis, within assigned programs to assess program  compliance with Rule 132 (Medication Regulations). This includes, but not limited to, MAR review and audits; cycle medication review(s); and documentation/charting of all medical related issues including medications.
  • Completes New employee medication trainings.
  • Completes timely assessment(s) of client’s health, using various screening tools. (i.e., TD screening, Self-Administration of Medication Assessment, Informed Medication Consent.), according to program requirements.
  • Effectively manages medication check in and medication updates on Quick MAR.
  • Approves new and discontinued medications in Quick Mar
  • Collaborates with Program Managers to assure medications are appropriately stored in assigned programs. 
  • Completes and/or reviews medication error reports on a timely basis.
  • Collaborates with Program Managers/staff at residential sites and pharmacy, as needed, to assure refill authorizations are followed up on in a timely manner. 
  • Approves temporary purchase of medications through pharmacy, for meds not covered by insurance, pending prior insurance authorization, as needed. 
  • Provides medication administration, monitoring, and training for clients, as needed.
  • Meet minimum service provision/productivity requirements as assigned by Supervisor.

Planning Skills:

  • Collaborates with, Program Managers/Supervisor, and Director of Health Services to plan necessary corrective actions related to program compliance with Rule 132 (Medication Regulations).
  • Participates in service planning meetings for clients, as needed.
  • Participates in staff meetings, providing input and ideas for improvements.

Implementation Skills:

  • Conducts ongoing staff training on compliance requirements with Rule 132 within assigned programs.  Implements timely corrective actions, and/or staff re-training, as needed, as a follow up to medication errors. 
  • Collaborates with the agency contracted psychiatrists, Medical Director, and/or other physicians, as needed.  
  • Accurately implements physician orders and/or facilitates the implementation of physician orders.
  • Participates in health related training for staff, as needed. 
  • Completes required nursing documentation, per agency and program requirements.
  • Assures the nursing department’s compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards, within designated program. 
  • Maintains client files according to AID procedures.
  • Provides consultation on community health resources, as needed, to address client health needs.
  • Works effectively within a team of professionals in a way that supports positive clinical outcome for clients.
  • Promotes client wellness through coaching, counseling, consultation, motivational enhancement, and information and referral services to clients facing various health challenges, as needed.
  • Communicate with service delivery partners Supervisor, Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Counselors, Pharmacists, Employers, Community Supports, and other health professionals, as needed, to facilitate the achievement of client’s wellness objectives.
  • Utilizes a variety of appropriate resources and educational materials for wellness coaching. (ie., Health Matters curriculum, Smoking cessation materials, Weight Management information, etc.)
  • Maintains client confidentiality in accordance with agency policy and federal and state laws.
  • Demonstrates consistent attendance and punctuality to scheduled work hours.
  • Acquire and maintain certification in CPR, non-violent crisis intervention (CPI), OIG Rule 50 training, and other mandatory or assigned trainings.

Evaluation Skills

  • Evaluates staff learning needs related to Rule 132 compliance, based on outcome of quarterly MAR audits.
  • Evaluates outcomes of nursing interventions, and adjusts plans, as needed.
  • Evaluates safety of the work environment, and takes corrective actions when needed or makes recommendations for safety improvements.
  • Broadens knowledge through seminars, conference, formal education and/or self -directed learning.

Qualifications


What will you bring to the table? 

Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited and approved nursing program. 

License/certifications:  Current, unrestricted Illinois Registered Nurse License in good standing with the State licensing board; current BLS certification  

Experience:  A minimum of two years of previous nursing experience working with persons with developmental disabilities, mental illness, and/or neurological impairments is preferred.  

Job Specific competencies:

  • Understanding of Nursing and Health Care principles and skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of adult learning principles.
  • Ability to provide clinical services to clients with a variety of psychiatric disorders or developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of applicable standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of DD and BH theory and practice.
  • Organizational, time management, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of AID’s policies and procedures.

What are the other requirements? 

  • Must acquire and maintain certifications in CPR, Non-violent crisis intervention training, OIG- Rule 50, and attend other relevant trainings, as required.  
  • Position requires ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, or weekends.  
  • Use of employee personal automobile for local community travel between program sites. Drives self on agency business. 
  • Valid Illinois Driver’s license 
  • Minimum amount of automobile liability insurance required, as defined by AID’s personnel policies
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills are required
