Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of certified staff, the Library Media Aide supports the daily operations of the media center and provides assistance to students and staff. This role helps foster a positive, collaborative environment that promotes a love of reading, digital literacy, and responsible technology use. The Media Aide assists with circulation, organization, programming, and supporting students in accessing resources, freeing up certified library/media specialists to focus on instructional and programmatic goals.
Essential Job Functions
Assists in managing the day-to-day operations of the school media center.
Supports students in finding, borrowing, and returning books and other materials.
Oversees the circulation desk, including book check-in/out using library management software (e.g., Follett Destiny).
Helps maintain an organized, welcoming library environment by shelving books, managing displays, and keeping the space tidy.
Assists with technology support for students, including using Chromebooks, accessing digital tools, and navigating online research platforms.
Encourages appropriate digital citizenship and ethical research practices.
Collaborates with library/media specialists to support student programming, events, and literacy initiatives.
Assists with inventory, cataloging, and routine maintenance of library materials and resources.
Promotes reading and learning by helping to create engaging bulletin boards, book displays, and creative spaces.
Provides supervision and support to students using the media center during assigned periods.
Supports the use of the library as a flexible, collaborative learning space.
Additional Duties:
Assist guidance, pupil services staff, or building administration as needed.
Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to follow instructions and multitask in a dynamic, student-centered environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable working with middle and high school students.
Comfortable using or learning library software (e.g., Destiny) and productivity tools (e.g., Google Suite).
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to model and encourage responsible technology use and digital citizenship.
Enthusiastic about reading, learning, and helping students grow.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and work respectfully with all members of the school community.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Works in a standard library and school environment.
May need to lift and move boxes of books or materials.
Ability to supervise students in a busy environment and adapt to changing student needs.
Qualifications Profile
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or relevant coursework preferred.
Experience working with middle or high school students is highly desirable.
Familiarity with library systems, digital research tools, and school technology platforms is a plus.
Willingness to learn and grow in a dynamic educational setting.
FLSA Status: Part-time (approx. 15 hours per week)
Non-exempt
$18.00 Per-Hour
Hours vary day to day depending on school needs.
