Job Summary
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
The RTA will be under the supervision of the Director Assigned to Juvenile Halls or his/her designee. The RTA will provide direct instruction and/or special education services to those students who are enrolled in the juvenile halls/camps. This position will be flexible in nature as the daily enrollment of the juvenile halls/camps is ever changing. The candidate will need to possess the ability to adapt to ever changing classroom situations, deal effectively with students who may exhibit emotional and learning disabilities, as well as students who are resistant to learning. The preferred candidate shall be knowledgeable of the IEP process, including the assessment and writing of IEP’s and or relief to teachers prepping for IEP’s. The candidate must have the ability to work productively and positively with others from diverse backgrounds in complex situations.
The basic understanding of how to schedule and write an IEP, develop goals and objectives, and how to present this information in an IEP meeting is critical. The ability to take direction from the PAU administrators on short notice is vital. The RTA will cover multiple general and special education classrooms daily when teachers are attending an IEP meetings, or for longer periods when coverage of classroom is necessary due to enrollment and class assignment variations. The ability to teach any high school subject on an interim basis is necessary. Travel to and from multiple Court School placements within Los Angeles County may be required. The candidate must have a strong desire to further personal growth through professional reading, professional collaboration, and training.
The RTA is a unique position that will offer the opportunity to work in a fluid, dynamic environment and assignments to a specific juvenile hall or camp may be temporary in nature. This position may serve more than one site throughout a school year; this individual will be assigned based on Division nee

Requirements / Qualifications
EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum of three (3) successful years of experience as a juvenile court or alternative high school teacher in special education or general education or any combination.
CREDENTIAL
• Must hold a valid Multiple Subjects or Single Subject CA teaching credential.
• Must have English Learner Authorization (CLAD or equivalent).
• A valid California Special Education Credential (Mild/Moderate) may be appropriate depending on the assignment.
• Valid California Driver’s License and vehicle required.
